Editor Saturday Evening Mall.| My feelings aro very much hurt, and I feel myself injured by the manner in which my name was placarded, and HI
my
caso misrepresented in Tho Daily Mail of last Saturday. Jn the first place I was not arrested at all as was holdly sot forth in the headlines of that article. There was HOar rest made, neither writ, warrant, nor subpoena was served upon me. That I fioggod a couple of boys around the legs in the voetibulo of my school bouse, and perhaps lett marks upon their limbs, for fighting, using knives and bad language in the midst of a crowd of school children after school was dismissed, I do not deny. But the whipping was done In the school building the next day and with moderation and moderate sized switches, and around tho legs where there was no danger of afflicting any bodily injurle«N The boy mentioned in connection with tho affair ran away from school on the morning alter the fight, and was kept at home hy his mother till noon, and I administered his Hogging alter tho opening of school in the alternoon, and his going home crying, etc., after school as was stated by his mother is all falne. Ho went home in the evening with the other children as usual, but that irate individual took him to town the next day and exhibited his switch marks to as many as she could prexail up»n to look at them, and sue ceed In haviug a constable to wait upon me at the school house, and giving me a verbal notice to appear at Esq. Wolfe's oftice that evening after school, which I did, and the whole affair was adjusted In a few minutes without even making a case of it. I was cleared of any guilt, charge or fine without giving a word of testimony rnyseli or having any witnesses examined for my defense. The stick exhibited by the so-called Injured parties, was a pointer used at the blackboard, and baa been carried off by one of them for a designing purpose, and was not the stick with which 1 whipped the boy, or acy part of it. All who know 'anything about the facts in the case, even the step-father of the boy, commend my set, and the mother of the other flogged boy, called at my boose, and expressed her approval of it. I acknowledge corporeal punishment to oe the dirty work of my peculiar and thankless profession, hot it is sometimes necessary, and when done in an Intelligent and humane manner, and meets with intelligent oo-operaUon at borne, results in great good, and I shall not hereafter hesitate to adminiaterit, whenevor I deem it necessary. -v Very rsspsotAiliy, etc-
