The explosion of a ciial oil Iacht at the National ltoad House, on east Main street, Wednesday night, resulted in the serious burning of three people. The life of Mrs. Steumpble was probably saved by Charles Miller, a Vandalia railroad employe, who threw his coat around her and extinguished the flames, though he was dreadfully burned himself in doing so. It was au act of heroism for which ho has been warmly commended.

Messrs. Foley Wllkerson are libowing by the way theyv take hold of the hat trade that they mean business. They are receiving new goods by every train, and everything of the latest and most styliah order.
Wm. M. Barr's spring trade opens much better than he anticipated, but he is prepared to attend to all ordera for wall paper, paper hanging, calcimining and houso and atgn painting, with the beat of material and wprkmen, at bottom figures. f»07 Ohio street between 6th and tith.
A better Itock of harness, collars, saddles, whips, etc., cannot be found In the city than is kept by Troeb A Fasig, No. 04, Main street, itor' ti nicer firm to do bnainess with, anywhere. If you ever deal with them once you will not fall to oall on the in when )ou neod something on their line the second time.
White A Mewhinney have a beautiful stock of fresh Oranges, Lemons, Figs, Cocoa nuts, Bananas, and other Tropical fruit, as well as a complete supply of nuts, confectioneries, etc. Pure Michigan cider is a specialty with this firm and they are able to. supply it, (or any of the other articles mentioned) in any desir:d quantities.
A look through Riddle's jewelry establishment is enough to make the dul lest pair of eyes glisten. A lot of new things, just received, are elegant. Mr. Riddle is right in his notion of what tirst-class jewelry store should be, and wo are glad to see that he shows the disposition and tho nerve to givo such to Terre Haute. He should be encouraged for the credit of the town.
Remember that W. H. Paige A Co., are tjie agents (and the sole agents) for the sale of the "Chickering" pianos find tho "Mason A Hamlin" organs in Terre Haute, and that no other dealer can sell you one, and it theroforo will be to his interest to convince you that the "Chickering" and the "Mason A Hamlin" are no better than some other make£, but don't mind any such talk. Cio to Paige A Co. and talk to thorn.
Decidedly tho most stylish and elegant looking silk hat that has made its appearance in Torre Haute this season, or that is likely to appear, is the "YoumansFifth Avenue." It is a beauty and is of course to be found at Howe A Stone r's. Several other new things have been received by this firm during the week and if the weather will only stay good for a few days, new hats will be as thick as blackberrys on the streets. Go to Howe A Stoner's fbr style.
Rippetoe is on hand again this afternoon with every delicacy that the market affords. Go to either one of his stores that you find moat convenient you will find both well supplied. There is no use spending time looking around other places to find something that he hasn't got. He has everything that anybody else has that is good, and a great deal that nobody has. Five minutes investigation in either one of his stores than half a day spent among, the others. Go to Rippetoe and select What you woold like to have, and it will be delivered promptly where you want it and you will find it just as it was represented in every particular. Itippetee has msny sd vantages over smaller dealers, and you will invariably do better by buying of him than by buying elsewhere. —PniecRirnoris prepared at reduced rates, at the EAGLE DRUG 8TORE%

The Trimming Store baa received still more new goods thia week and more aro coming. There ia a big surprise in store for ladies who haven't made a call there for the past aeven days. The Trimming Store already haa a fine reputation for keeping a little ahead of any other establiahment in its particular line, but it Is this season going to so far anrpass all it has done in former years thst nothing ot* that will bo remembered. At least, that is the way Mr. Riddle talked to the writer of thia paragraph.
