"SotUlng op" time has aroond again." Boring tho next*two weeks everybody who owe® an account must expoct to be asked to pay It. The mor ebanta who havo accounts tost will ho expected to clooe them up now either •by paying tho 'cash or by fglving notes at short time for the balances due, and any failure to do one or the other would bring to them speedy disaster. Many of tbem are looking forward to the first of January with extreme anxiety. If they as 11 collect what Is due tbem they can jtay what they owe. If not, trouble will result. Some of them are carrying thousands of dollars on their books, which ino«ey If io now wookl lighten op their !o*d and mike it easy enough for tli^m to enter on tho new year in good shape and with bright prospects for the future. A failure to collect will cause them serious annoyance, distress and, |ossibly, In some cases, ruin.
If you who read this have been granted accommodation® bv business men and owe them for goods purchased or work done, show your appreciation of the favor now, l.»y paying up promptly. Pay every bill that is presorted if it is possible to do HO, and don't put it olT till "next week" or "next month" with the money In your pockot. These are tight times. The befct tray in the world to loosen them is for eaoh individual to pay his own bills. The mischief of a neglect to do so is, that to withhold money in one case withholds it in an other, and so through a long line. When one street-car is stopped by an obstruction on the track, all tbo other cars behind it ar$ 1 topped too. It is precisely so with an unpaid debt. And don't noglect tho bill because it iB small. The sum may look Insignificant to you, but remember thai the man you owe it to may havo hundreds just liko it and in the aggregate they may either make or break him. The payment of yours will at anv rate help him just so much, and you should give liim the money cheerfully and promptly. And just here is a point deserviug of special attention the matter of paying cheerfully. There are men who invariably get mad when a bill is presented to tbein. They will let an account run for months without thinking it necessary to even make any explanations as to why they do so, and than when tbey aro some day asked to pay it, go into a violent, passion and pretend to be insulted. HJHI very likely mako this an excuse for deferring tho tho payment another month or two. Such scoundrels ought to be "spotted" by business men and promptly kicked out of any store in which they seek credit. Such men are Ly no means rare. Every business man -*an mention at least a dozen of them. The fact is, people who buy ou credit ought not to wait to be dunned. They ought to pay up at the earliest moment they can, without putting the merchant to the trouble of going after hi* money but if they oan'fc do this they ought to at least have decency enough to treat tho ool lector politely when ho comes with the bill.
THK construction of the ffoiiso"committees seerua to have given offense to many leftding Democrat! and is severely criticised In all quarters. It is claimed that Mr. Kerr in making the appointments consul tod his owu, interests rather more than tbo partes, while the interests of tho country were left out of the ease entlrely. Tbo truth, probably, Is that ho acted as conscientiously as any other politician would have dono under like oiroumstances and with tho material he had to doal w4th. Self first, party next, and tho country last, soenm to be the established order in polities and we seo no particular reason why it should have been expected that Mr. Kerr would rise superior to it. The appointment of Hon. Wm. R. Morrison to tbe cbalrtnartlbip of |Kt Ways and \faitis committee secto to haveoocaflofifed the greatest surprise and the most serious dissatisfaction, as b* la said to he totally ta&tag In th* qnalltkw ngi Aii\~$ In kf 1 oftdef of. tht

Anything for an honeat4ftvingn la an old aaying, but whether dlvorou case hunter in this section mry be said to be an honest vocation Is a question. Yesterday a very esUmaljlo married lady, Li this city* was astounded at receiving 0 circular letter making the wildest and most unusual propositions. Sho handedIt to hor husband immediately after his arrival home, and that gentleman baa given it to Tho Mail for publication. The circular Is In a plain hand writing, printed on stone, and at first glance resembles ordinary business penmanship The body of the letter Is printed. It Is dated Terre Haute House, Terre Haute, December 20, 1875, in order to make the impression that tho letter waa written In full in this city. The printed portion reads as follows after the a'ldress: "MY DKAR MADAM: I trust I may address you confidentially upon a subject, which we are informed, you are particularly interests In at this time. 1 have been sent to Terre Haute by our people, one of tho largest law firms In New York, to writo to you personally rclativo to obtaining for you an immediate divorco which wo understand is vour desire. Wo have ftill power to act In this State, and our many years experience in this business euables us to go to work at onee and procure you a Full divorce, in half the time required by your own city lawyers, and our prices aro not as heavy. Besides, we keep it from the public.
Wo can get you what you want in three weeks, and you need not fear of getting your name in the papor if you don't want it. No matter what tho charges are that you may bring against your husband we can got yon a full divorce. And then Instead of living a life of misery, you can once moro become a free woman and do just as you please, years experience in tbh business, and all you need do is to reply
to this letter and state when and where a private interviev may bo had with you alone, or with some intimate or confidential lady friend of yours. I would prefei, however, that you be alone when wo talk about this matter. At least until we seo our way clear. I assure you that no one excepting yourself who is known in this city is aware of such a letter as this having been written to you, so you need not bo alarmed that your husband will over know a word about it. He need not know until it is too lato for him to do anything that would stop you from getting your divorce. Please reply as quickly as possible. I l\ave written to you plainly in the kope that you will understand everything. Address your letter to tho New York postofflco, station 1), where I will receive it artd return to this place two or three weeks from date, when I will call to seo you at your houso or whoroever else you may suggest in your reply.
Writo to the firm confidentially and without fear. Pot your latter in the enclosed envelope, which is already addressed, and oblige, yours respectfully,

Enclosed with the circular was a yellow envelope, with the printed address, "Harvey, Thomes it Ritchie, Station New York City."
Whatever induoed the person to send sacha letter to the lady, neither she nor her husband can tell. Tho stranger in all probability received bogus information. It iaalso supposed that many of these circulars were mailed to parties in this city. Shows g. Show People.
Without going into details and com' pariaons, it may be said that oar people —so fkmiliar with the performances of the Rankin company—were greatly disappointed with the rendition of the
Two Orphans" by the Furbiah oompa ny on Saturday. Not that It wasn't well played, but from the fame which had preceded tbem, the largo audience aaaembled on that evening were led to expect much greater things. Tho comparisons mado—notably between the "Jacqnoa," "Pierre," the two orphan girls, and "Chevalier De Vaudrey" put quito large feathers in tbo caps of the Rankin party, and detracted much from the well earned reputation of the Furblshers.
On to morrow evening, Mr. Jas. P. Voorbees wHl reproduce his Uamlet, at the Opera House, supported by J. II Rennie's dramatic company. These are professionals, snd with the careful study Mr. Voorbees has given the character slnco his first sppearance, we may expect a more acceptable rendition. Mr. C. 8. Anderson will again appear as Polonius and the First Grave Digger, which he gave with such niarkod favor on the first oocasion.
To-morrow afternoon a matlneo performance will be given, when will be brought out John E. Owens' great comedy of "Everybody's Friend," Mr. C. 8. Anderson playing Major Wellington Do Boots, In which we auticipate a hit, and Mr. Voorbees appearing as Felix Featherly, supported by tho company^ aboyo named. ,V
On Monday and Tuesday evenings next the Hall Dramatic Combination comes, and from tho flattering notices of the press it must be a very strong organization. On Monday evening they give us tho sparkling society comedy of "Saratoga," and on Tuesday evening will present "Frou Frou," one of tho most dellghtftil comedy dramas ever put upon tho stage. It is a socioty play of a great deal of power, most charming in plot? presenting many interesting dramatic scenes and thrilling effects. A Macon, Georgia, paper says:
Wre know of no company upon the road that compares with this one as an aggregation of a fine order of talent. It is excellent in every particular—it in fact a company of ladies and gentlemen socially, and of artists professionally. Wo have never seen plays in which there wero so many important paits so excellently sustained. Everv individual member fits the niche to which he or she is assigned, and does the work in a manner which indicates a right conception of the idea and a pleasing disposition to develop it.
From a half column arliele in the Savannah News we tako this paragraph Mi ,-, tiytth np,. Ui
In noticing the castfe, wo scarcely know where to commence, as wo failed to detect in the entire performance the slightest point npon which sharp criticism could find a poise. Wo have nodesire to be fulsoni in our praise of the company, but really It Is such a treat to once more greet upon our boards a firstclass, meritorious combination, that we confess to a tingo of unusual enthusiasm, and in what wo say we have no doubt that the intelligent audience present last evening will fully accord.
