MORUAN K. GU»\ a well known former living about nine miles south of the city, on the Sullivan road, was shot Wednesday evening by a young man by the namo of Robert Clark. Gunndied almost instantly. After tho shooting, Clark took to the woods, remaining out all night, but in tho morning returned toUunn's house and surrendered himself. He is now in the county jail, and talks freely aboat the aflair confessing Ids guilt and claiming to be sorry that he committed tho crime. He is about nineteen years of age, and has relatives in this city.
THE fire Thursday morning destroyed the row of stable and out buildings in rear of the Early block of tenement bouses on Third street.
Tho Are on Thursday nittrhing was on the corner of (Sixth and Eagle. The property damaged belonged to Mr. Abbott and was fully insured. The building occupied by Mrs. Jones as a boarding boose, suffered most. Mr. Abbott's residence was not materially injured. Tho results or those fires might have Itcen quite different had it not been for the water works, as a hard gale was blowing at the time in the direction of tho most compactly built portion of the city. —Tho Traveling Men of Torre Haute iare requested to meet at 8 o'clock this evening at the National House, for the transaction of business of importance. A full attendance Is Indispensable.
