Riley PRICK, a cooper living on Second street, south of Wilson, was knock' ed down and robbed of four dollars just as he was entering bla own gate, about eigbt o'clock Saturday evening, and remained lying where be fell, senseless, until midnight, whon he recovered con sclonsneas sufficiently to drag himself into the bouse. A physician was immediately summoned and it was found thst bis skull was badly fractured, a portion of the brain protruding, The blow had beeu made with a biick and must have been given with dreadful force. Price Is still lying in a very critical cor. dition, and hi* recovery can only be the result of the most careful treatment and watching and even then will bo next to marvellous. No clue has yet been obtained ss to the perpetrator of the fonl assault,
A rEnnoN was presented to the ooun ell at its last meeting ssklng the freo use of the new city hall one night for ball purposes, the proceeds of said ball being intended for Mr*. Michael Rink. No particular time was mentioned in the petition, a blank appearing therein which It' was Intended the council should fill. The use of tbo hall was promptly granted by the council snd the Market Committee authorized to #11 the blank with a date. This, of eourse, the committee could not do without consultation with tho managers of the ball, as to the time that would best suit them. Up to this date we believe there has been no such consultation, consequently we sre unable to state the exsct time when the ball will take place. will most likely be between Christmas and Now Year's.
The ball will have a roost worthy ob ject, and should meet with hoarty ap proval and liberal patronage from all classes. Mrs. Rink's heroic endurance and womanly devotion to her husband during tho three sorrowful years just passed, and hor bereaved and destitute oondltlon at present, should touch eveiy heart, and make us all feel glad of an opportunity to contribute to her better comlort this winter. We hope to see a handsome »nm of money raised, and would deem it a disgrace to the town if the movement looking to that end should fall to realize the hope.

ANNIVERSARIES.
Rev. S. F. Dunham, Rector of St. Ste phen's Episcopal church, preached his third anniversary sermon Sunday. From among the many Interesting statements regarding the condition and work of tho church during the year just closed, we quote the following: "The bishop of the diocese has made one visit t« this pariah to administer tbe Apostolic rite of confirmation. On that occasion twenty-two were confirmed. Thlrty-nlno Infants and seven adults have received Holy Baptism a total of forty-six. There havo been fifteen burials eleven mar riagossolemnized thirty communicants have been added, and twenty-six lost by removal *, three families havo moved Into tbe parish and fourteen bave gone away.
Tast Ran day completed tbe tenth year of Rev. E F. liowo's ministry In tbia city, and he had Intended on to-morrow to preach a sermon appropriate to the closing up of one snd the opeolng of another decade, but the revival has upset anything bo contemplated for that occasion, and it wlil be deferred to another tlmtt.
