Thb tblrd annual ball of the Terro Haute police force came off Tuesday Bight and waaln every respect a marked nucceaa. There has wsldoin beon a public ball In this city where so few objectionable eharacUra were present, or whoro the music, the dnnclng, and the fun wore carried on in orderly and pleaaant a manner. The attendance wan large and tho receipts far In oxcess of what was expected. The fact was clear that tho cttijicna of Terre Haute appreciate "the force" and are glad of an opportunity to «how it.

TItK MSNDKLSSOfl-V UtyTKTTE CLUB. The management of tho Parker memorial entertainment may congratulate itself upon having achieved the very ainne of success In giving such concerts as that of last night at so cheap a rate. To bear that admirable instrumental organisation, the Mendelssohn Quintette Club, with a popular vocalist, at a coat of lwe«ty-flve cent*, is a privilege sore to meet with general appreciation, and the concert last evening packed the beautiful hall literally to overflowing. The programme was made up with excellent taste and Introduced several of the soloist* of the club aa well aa Miss Kellogg. FARUKRS WANTED
At tbe Red Front, corner Third and Main aueet, to be convinced that tbey ffu tony of us a better and cheaper Boot or Shoe than at any other place In tbe CITY. DAMJBL RNSOUFT,
THKRB baring been complaint that tho present city council is reckless in its expenditures of the public funds, and that it has already borrowed large sums of money, at a high rate of inteieat, with which to meet current expenses and will have to continue borrowing, during the remainder of the year, tho following itemised report was prepared to show what part oI the sum expended vnj paid out on indebtedness incurred by tbe present council, and what part on that incurred by the proceeding one The report embraces tbe six months from May 1st to Nov. 1st, and the total amount of money expended Is f77.750.83. Of courso the reader will understand that there must, of mxaaalty, always be a number of unsettled clalftis at the end of each year, and that theee of oourse go over and are oounted In the year In which tbey are paid. In other words, wfh year pays a porilon of the blUs of the year proceeding it.
So far aa we are able to see, not very much that Is of any satisfaction to the public is shown by the report. An itemized report of the expenses of each council, embracing a period of ssy five years, would be vastlyjsaoro interesting, as showing how municipal expenses of all kiud have grown, and grown, until a city tax off 1.25 cents on tho hundred dollars is not by any means sufficient to meet them. The present council may be the most economical and careful one that we have had for years. I fit Is (and we havo no particular reason to doubt It) such a report would show the fact and the people would not withhold tboir congratulations. MONKY KXPKJtDED FROM MAY
