And bought herself a pin and rings to match. And that her mother her love might see, She bought for her a set of tea. And as Maud went home that afternoon, Hhe hummed to herself this little tune:

If all the sad things that have ever been, The saddest Is to be 'out of tin* For you see there were so many ele-1 gant things at Riddle's, that notwithstanding his low prices, the longest purse would not hold out.

A gentleman who visited St. Louis this week, declares to us that among all the hat stores of that city he did not see a show window exhibiting such an array of hats as are shown in the front windows of Howe fe Yates, this city. A peep into these windows, especially the west window will show a variety of styles sufficient to please the most fastidious taste. The great trouble is to decide, from so many which to take.

Among the pretty sights along Main street none attract the eye more readily than the show windows of Button fc Hamilton's Book Store, filled with samples of some of the many new and elegant goods constantly arriving there. This week quite a change been made in the windows, and prominently appear some new and beautiful chromos, games for children, elegant stationery and other articles too numer ous for mention.

Time was when the term "Hoosier" was one of which our grandfathers were ashamed, for it was applied by eastern people as a term of derision. Now it is a name in which we all take a pride, and one of our most popular dry goods

About those 232,444 Machines.

[From Wilson's Sewing Machine Reflectory Mr. Hopper's Singer Manufacturing Company manufactured 232,444 Singer Sewing Machines in the year 1872, making 19,370 per month, or 745 per day, or nearly two machines per minutes. This is a "high" statement, nevertheless it is sworn to and ought to be true. This very large number of machines were not only made in the year 1873, but by sworn returns they were sold. But without assuring our reading that they were made
