TITE trial of Sam. W. McDonald,' for the alledged murder of Berry Amos, at Townsontown, Baltimore county, Maryland, was ended Saturday morning last, by the jury bringing in a verdict of acquittal, and Mr. McDonald arrived in this city yesterday morning. He will continue to reside in this city, and it is to be hoped that the experience of the past summer may prove of benefit in shaping his future course of life.

THE ladies of Centenary church worked hard to make their Centennial Tea Party a success, but it didn't "pay," we are sorry to say. Yes it did "pay" those who attended, and it was by no means small crowd, but tbe ladies bad prepared for a big rush, and the amount of perishable articles left over took away all tbe profits. The concert, in which Miss Fannie Hughes, Miss Tudle Beauchamp, Miss Mennie Hager, and Messrs. Kilbourae, Hoberg, Paige, Furls, Roney and Davis took part was a real musical treat, Mias Hughes "Kathleen Mavourneen" was received with great favor, as was also the sweet "Evening Serenade/ of Miss Beauchamp.". Miss Hager, who is, we believe, a pupil of Prof. Kilbourne made her first appearance in public, and elicited decided applause. Although suffering from a cold, she showed the possession of aaweet voice, well under control, and bids fWr, when strength is added, to become a fine vocalist. At the supper which followed the concert tbe guests were waited on by sprightly and attentive ladles, dressed In the costume® worn by our grandmothers, and some of them In tbe identical dromes. One table was set with dishes imported from China one hundred yean ago.
