TERRE HAUTE SATURDAY EVENING*'MAl£:
miMmAND CASUALTIES. Thishaa been a remarkable week for crimea and accidents resulting In loss of lift and property
The first and one of tbe saddest oecurwaa the death of young Willie tote route manager of the Ga-
On Sunday evening, while bath
ing at Uta river artaaia* baths, he was overcome by the gas which comes up from the well with the water, and although taken out within half a minȣe and medical aid promptly summoned, he expired in a short time. He was a remarkably intelligent yuuth and waa warmly endeared to his companions.
On the next morning, an old nun waa found dead lying to the ditch which carries the water from the well to ihe liver. This waa outside ami some distance from the baths. It proved to be Christophef* Sneider, seventy-three years of age, a man of very intemperate habita. It to supposed that he waa bath ing in the water, was suffocated by the gas, fell back in the water and waa drowned. S r.i'i
During the heaVy "alorm" of Sunday evening, the lightning struck a house just south of the Providence Hospital, and Mrs. McFall, who had gone upstairs to cloae the windows, waa Instantly killed. The sister and two sons of Mrs. McFall, in a lower room were so shocked as to be thrown to the floor, but soon recovered.
On Monday afternoon, in daylight, the house of Ft Garvin, on south Seventh street, was entered, and a watch, a pair of pants, hoots and a ring were taken. Mr. Garvin with his family are visiting in Pennsylvania.
Monday "night the rbsktcnoe of W. H. Perdue, on the north side of Cherry street, east of Sixth, was entered between the hours of 12 80 and 1:30, by breaking the fastening of a shutter. Articles of clothing were scattered about the floor and some $85 or $40 in monCy taken. Mr. Perdue was up with a sick child at the hours above named, and the burglary was effected within that hour.
About twelve o'clock Tuesday night three men with their faces partly masked entered the house of Fred Dickman, near Col. Thompson's residence, stunned Mr. D. with a blow over the head, tied the entire fhmily, took some two hundred dollars in money, and left. The fistmlly did, not succeed* in releasing themselves from their bonds until four o'clock in tbe morning.
Yesterday morning, McCarty, head switchman in the Vandalia yards, this city, was run over and killed by a backing train. It was an accident for which no one was to blame. The deceased was an estimablo young man, twenty-three years of age, and the Gaxetto states was to be married in September to Miss Mary Brady, a young lady in the employ of Strauss, the milliner.
THE demonstration by the Patrons of Husbandry last Wednesday was a surprise to everbody. Near five hundred wagons and carriages in procession, extending from the Court House square to the Fair Grounds, filled with the hardy sons of toil and their families, all bedecked in holiday attire, was ono of the most pleasing sights that has been witnessed for along time. It showed that the formers are moving and taking steps to better their condition. The day was one of the most pleasant of the season, and the vast crowd at the Fair Grounds made ft one of hearty enjoyment. At the handsomely decorated stand, Past State Master, John Weir presided, and speeches were made by E. A. Olleman, of tbe Indiana Farmer, C. W. Stewart, of this city, and Dr. Furnas, of Hendricks county.
We hope to see more of these termer's {festivals to see the sturdy formers oome together, not so much to attempt to regulate trade and commerce, as to compare notes and leant how to make forming pay. Let the shiftless former mingle freely with the thrifty let him read more become more intelligent and while cultivating the ground learn to cultivate the acquaintance of his brother former and all will be the better for tbe Interchange of views. --p.*?-
