A BOILRR at J. A. Parker's Eagle Foundry, exploded Thursday evening, scalding William Fisher and inflicting such inlury that he died shortly after twelve o'clock that night. Mr. Fisher waa a well known and esteemed citizen. He served honorably with the Eleventh Indiana during the war. He was thirtyfive yean of age, and has been connected with the Eagle Foundry for seventeen ye*».

TiiE city polio©, acting under the new ordinance, are giving saloon keepers to understand that the provisions of the Baxter 11111 must be observed. Several arrests have been made and fines Imposed. A continuance for a few weeka of the nerve now being displayed will cause the law to be respected, and its merits fully tested before the convening of the next Legislature. Then if it proves a bad law, its repeal will be ait oaay matter.

THK weather this week has been the hottest known since 1871, when about the same time the heat was simitar. Tuesday night was tho hottest there is any record of in this locality. At 0 o'clock in the evening tho mercury marked 1*7° and attnidnight It stood 87°. Such an altitude in the middle of tho night has never before been known hereabouts— and that's why during that night the city was full of wakcftil and uneasy wretches, who vainly roamed front room to room, out doors and in doors for a cool breath of air.

There will be a grand celebration of tho Putrons of Vigo county, at tho beautiful grounds of tho Vigo Agricultural Society, one and one-half miles east of Terro "Haute, on Wednesday July 29tb, 1874. The grounds will be in splendid order, with plenty of cool shade and water. The various organizations of Workingmen and Sovereigns of Industry and also Patrons from other counties and States and all friends of the order and the public generally are cordially invited to join with us and have a good time. The procession will start from the corner of Second and Main streets, and move east to the Grounds, at 10 o'clock.
