TH*Expn*»«f yiwterday 9fi«taii»an aecoont of railroading in tW» afeettoaof the country In esrlydsgrt. Dan. Cmwa says that at the tune mentioned, Tom Foster was tbe conductor of the train, and thai Pat Bulger and hlmaelf acted in the capacity of brakemen, and attended to any other little boainaw which not on the time card, the principal one of which was preserving order. DM saya that the men along tbe road in thoae days were awfbl roogh ones, and that they would insult everyone on the train whenever an opportunity presented itselt Tbe principal misehief workers
Itow atoekhoMars, who wew wver
in good humor unless In a fight. They would start a row on evory train which passed through, and gave the boys considerable exercise In keeping them straight. The roughest set were those In the vkinity of Charleston and Hillaboro at the former plaoe, the ftivorite amusement was that of throwing cats through the windows. There was one fellow named Hlckey, who whipped all who came along, and sighed fear more te conquer, until Bulger came along, when he met his match. The Hillaboro crowd mustered one hundred strong at one time, for tho purpose of taking Bulger off the train, but his friends saved him by putting him on top of the cars. Occasionally some one would come aldng who thought he ought to ride free, and then there would be a knock down argument to persuado him that he was mfctaVwn one time Dan put one of these gentlemen off and accompanied him as fir as tho ditch, where they both remain ed in a loving embrace while the train moved off it returned for him however as soon as ho was missed. One follow not only rofused to pay his fore but drew a revolvor on tho conductor, but was prevented from using it by Bulger, who was rewarded for his timely interference with anew suit of clothes.
The duties were so ardous that the mon were paid extra and received besides, their clothingand board. Dan says Foster was one of the best fellown he over met, though very unfortunate ho made two fortunes, but lost them both and finally died in the poor-house.
SHERIFF HULL was up In Fayette township tho other day on business, after the transaction of which he had sometime to spare before returning to the city, so he concluded to electioneer a little. On crossing tho ferry ho broached the subject to tho ferryman, and asked him how things were going in bis neighborhood. "Not many 'publicans here," was the answer. Our worthy officer i..formed him that he was a candidate for tho nomination for sheriff on the Republican side, and should ho be successf in obtaining it, he would like to have him vote for him, no matter what lii.i politics were, at the same time giving him his name. He eyed him closely from head to foot for about a minute, and then broke out, "So your name's Hull, you say and that yer the sheriff of this yer county. Why, ain't Sam Conner sheriff now Upon being informed that Sam had vacated the office some fifteen years ago he replied "Why I thought he still wur sheriff. Wall now don't he still send his depetiesup here sometimes? Wall now!" After being convinced of his mistake ho said he thought it was about time the people in this part of the country voted for men and quit going it blind, on party.
It is not supposed that this item will be read on that ferryboat, else it would not bo written.

On Monday she procured a quantity of morphine and took it, after which aho tefbaed all comedies from the iuhbora, who were called In, saying «be wanted to die. When nawa is dull, and it«naaittaGM«lMUl th^jr have to do ia to foil back upon it yet, after all which baa been said abaat, it remains for some daring band of explorers to pencta ate its unknown depths, and to this end a com* pany is being otganlswl, which will at once ooBUMiioiUwtadi and prosecute it without delay. Tbe report that thay have sskod the government to appropriate $50,306 to aid them in the work, ia unfounded, as la also the one to the effect that the editor-in-chief of the Journal will introduce abitl in Congress, If elected, making such an appropriation. All the company asks, ia that Governor Hendricks shall preserve peace between the daily papers, and keep tok doors closed while the axpedUion Is out on Its voyage. It hsa not yet been decided who will be commander, but it ia thought the chances are infovor of Judge Scott, whose skill aa a mathematician would greatly facilitate matters should any difficult problems arise, as to latitude, longitude, soundings, or the national debt should he receive the appointment his chaise will be flagship, and from its fore will float the commodore's pennant. Some difficulty has been experienced sa to who should accompany the expedition as historian, and many meetings have been held, and lengthy debates had upon tho subject before it was finally settled that "P." should be the lucky man tbls appointment has a two-fold object In view besides writing a history of the expedition it is supposed that a number of islands will be discovered, the inhabitants of which will be committed in fovor of tho

Simon Ilirsch has chartered the Marshall schooner and will represent Bar nurn, collecting specimens for the menagerie.
The expedition will start next Mon day and will return July 4th, 1870, should nothing happen, at which time tho A. A. S. will be in session here and pass upon tho discoveries made.
WALL street had a sensation yesterday —the first it has enjoyed for a longtime, It was the trial of David Bronson, on an indictment for selling liquor after nine o'clock P. M.
The fects are about as follows:—Mrs, N. B. Joab, Mrs. Carrie Glover, Mrs. Fortune and Mrs. Charlotte Barnett were returning to their homes from church and saw a man enter a saloon they watched him through a window, and saw him take a glass of beer, blow tbe foam offit, drink it, lay apiece of money down on tho counter, receive his change, and walk out. The defense endeavored, by several witnesses, to show that at the distance the ladies were standing from the counter, they could not tell the difference between beer and ginger ale. On the cross-examination of the witnesses for the state they also endeavored to show that they did not know whether or not it was money which passed over the counter. ,*
The judge delivered the charge to the jury, aftor which they retired, and after deliberating about forty minutes returned a verdict of guilty, and fined tho defendent five dollars and costs..
R, S. Tennant appeared lor the state and Judgo Carleton lor tho defense. A great many of the ladies engaged in tho temjKsrance movement were present, and listened attentively and patiently throughout. 1"
DECORATION DA Y.—Tho business houses were generally closed this morning in observance of Decoration Day, and notwithstanding the intense heat a great number of the oitisens, both from tha country and dty, went to the cemetery# The procession wail not as large as It has been in former years, but made a good display it was led by the German band, which was followed by the military company, tho police force, fire department, young mi*»aa with baskets of flowers, andcitiwjtu on foot and In carriages.
