JOKKFH TEMPLE, an old dUMnofthia dty, committed suicide yesterday by aborting hia»elfwitl» a pistol. He was afflicted lor some time with paralysis of the sjrtne, and for tho past four months be had been a helpless invalid, his mind having been afflicted to such an extent that he was quite irrational.

He was living with his son, Chartea, who took care of him, and to whom several times of late he had remarked "that be most be going." Nothing however was thought of it at the time. Yesterday morning about eight o'clock he assisted him to drees, and l»ft him in his chair, going out for a moment into another ream where his wife was. It appears that Mr. Temple had a revolver at his shop, which, about a month ago he requested his son to bring home as be was afraid it would bo stolen the son took it home and placed it In a drawer in his fkther's room. Yesterday morning just before leaving the room the old gentleman remarked, "I must go now they have called me," and immediately after Charles left the room he reached over, took the pistol out of the drawer, placed the muzxle against his head and and fired, the ball piercing the brain. Medical help was summoned immediately, but nothing could be* done for him be lingered until one o'clock in the afternoon, at which time he expired. An inquest was held and a verdict rendered in accordance with the above facts.

A LAW firm of this city was astonished a few days ago by visit from a gentleman who claimed to own their office and its contents. He gave no name but said he was an Irishman that he owned the whole world, and this continent in particular that the statute law of Ireland, and the constitution of the United States so declared he said President Grant ought to turn the country over to him as soon as ho got through with it he said he thought of declaring war against Grant, but he did not like to do that unless ho had no other redress that the country might as well be delivered over to him now, as ho would oome back to the world at some future time and claim it. When the conversation had proceeded thus far, it was suspected he had vacancies in rent for the upper story, but it was all made clear when he explained that his claims were based upon the fact that he was the only man who ever read tho platform of the Know-nothing Party.

Air eastern company makes the following proposition to property holders on Sixth street:

To pave Sixth street from I. ft St. L. railroad to Moffatt streets of 41 feet between the curb stones, at $5.68 per front foot each side, with the best of ceder, laid on a floor with cement, making a solid, permanent street.

The present valuation of the property on the streets to be established. Will take option to take the property at the end of twelve months at present valuation, 6 per cent interest added, or forfeit the pavement to the property owners.

Property owners may choose within thirty dayn after completion of pavement to pay for the same, and redeem the property from the option.

Example:—A. has SO feet front, present valuation $),000 Cost of improvement at 95.88 is t®4.

Twelve months interest on S3,OUO Is $180.

Property and interest 83,180. Parties to pay that amount at the end of twelve months, or forfeit the pavement.

Owner of property has the right to pay 1284 within thirty days after the pavement is completed.

It is claimed that the Wyckoff pavement, which this party proposes to construct, is the simplest in Its construction, smoothest and pleasaotest to ride over, and when laid with cedar In cement, the most durable ever made—the space between the blocks running Irregularly, and not parallel at an equal distance apart, as is the case with another method, presents that unpleasant motion which issure to follow from the use of a uniform sized block, with an intervening board partition.

A specimen of this pavement will be on exhibiton in a few days.
