The pay of a councilman is little more than fifty dollars a year, and yet the Gasette charges that Mr. Bridenthal spent money lavishly to secure his nomination. Queer, to aay the least, if true.
Col. Cookerly is very indignant at a rumor that ho bad sold out to th» temperance people for ono thousand dollars, and to which bo attributes his defeat for the oounrtl nomination. Wm. M. The best lawyers in the city have decided that my oontract with the city for painting the new market-house does not dobar mo from serving in the council."
Jesse Robertson, in a communication to the Gazette says: "I desire to say through your columns that I have the legal opinion of James M. Allen, Thos. B. Long and Cot W. B. McLean, and they all agree that my disposing of my contractto H. H. Sale removes all chance for a question as to my beiug eligible."
