A xCMitfsn of prominent citizens hare tendered the Iron Men's Combination a complimentary benefit, and a performance will be giren at the Opera House, to-night. These men, now out of employment, take this method to earn money to support their families, and tbey are deserving of a full house on this occasion. They played at 2reenca*tle on Monday evening to a large audience, and at Brazil last nlgbt with tbe fwrne success.
PROF, BALDWIN gave bis second exposure of spiritualistic tricks at tbe Opera House on Monday evening, in the presence of an Immense audience, and shower! to every unprejudiced mind that evnrything done by so-called Hpiritu'jl agency at Pence's Hall, can be done by human agency. He was rendered valuable assistance by Sal lie jiop«»r, who, in connection with tbe Morgan girl, has boen giving for several mouths past some of the most startling demonstrations. This bright littl! girl, in answer to questions upon the stage, declared unhesitatingly—and sfcmod eager to undo tbe wrong abe had done—that tbe manifestations she had produced at Peace's hall were not the work of spirits tbat she produced th*m herself tbat sbe bad seen Laura Morgan do these things having, while in the cabinet, seen the instruments, tamborines and bells in her hands and then she assisted Prof. Baldwin in Mbowing how it was done,
WR SIMPLY Suaoiarr.—While we do not for a moment entertain a suspicion tbat Messrs. Hook and Penoe are or have been in collusion with so-called medlams In producing tho manifestation down at Pence's Hall, there are some, and tbe number Is growing every day, who do believe that these gentlemen are parties to tbe fraud. Baldwin and Fisko are taking a deep interest In oxposing the same. Whether tbeir ob jeet Is gain of lucre, notoriety or spite we will not stop to d!souss. But if tbe manifestation are tricks we belive tbey are more able to detect It than any iu tbe community. Why not give them overy opportunity Lat them be put on tbe public examining committees, or let tbxtu investigate iu private. If the manifestations are the real work of spirits, tbey can do no harm to tbe Pence Hall business. If it is fraud Hook and Pence wilt bo credited for as Misting in getting at the truth. Instead of, as it ei*w looks, en deavoring to shield the impostors.

I
a little stir has been created
during Iho week by the report in one of tbe dailies of a speech of Rev. Mr. Howe, in which be was represented as saying that uo respectable men In tbe Second Ward had algned petitions for permits to sell liquor. Tbe Banner went for him sharp. The Journal pub llshed a communication containing tbe name* oi some of the signers of these petitions. There was a good deal of talk on the street, and the afftlr seemed likety to lake Its plaoe alongside the Parks atreet war, the Sewerage controversy, the Mllligan-Lee affair, when the Heveretid gentlemen put a quietus upon tbe wbole matter by denying that he ever made the assertion, and refered to wembers of his audience for coofir tnatlon of his dental. The Gasette wan gi#4 to make the correction, and exon* orated the wicked partner from blame T%e Banner lovingly patted the clergyman ou the baok." -The Journal said we thought so." All is peaceful. By the way, suppose the Temperance men had published tbat list of "respectable men" who signed petitions for saloons wouldn't there have been a row.
