Miss Flora stands arrayed in a single garment, which reaches almost to her high boot-tops, and is ruffled at the bottom and embroidered at the top.

Feeling easier, she sits down, and while taking off her shoes and stocking she desires to know if the "halfhour" and fifoen minutes" have both been called, sbe asks to be informed bow long before the orchestra will be rung in.

Her shoes and stockings being off by this tim? she reaches over to where her tights have been hanging the night previous' and juncts to I don tbcm.

divests herself of the

long, whit* rullled and ombroidered garment before mentioned, and putting on a sbort muslin sack, sbe stands in front of her glans and commences the most important part of her labors—the make-up. Taking her bloom of youth, or bismuth and rose water, or arop of chalk, or whatever she mav use, Miss Flora applies it liberally to her face and neck, and even (though not at thisstage, but after being dressed,) to ber arms. Carefully brushing off all superfluous bits of tho whiting, she applies with much delicacy the rouge (Mora uses Daurun,s No. 18,) and if necessary also puts that preparation on her lips that give them the beamlfnl cherry color which so fascinates the Count Johannes. After Miss Flora plentifully smears ber eyebrows with ulack cosmetic, and boating a hairpin in the gas, runs it into the black compound and while the amount that adheres to the hairpin is soft with the heat she applies it to her eyolashen, both upper audi lower this, together with a little black lime at the extreme outside corner of tho eye, enables the lovely Flora to assume that melting, voluptuous expression which is admired, and, at the same time gives her eyes a larger appearance than nature intended.

The "make-up" being complete, then comes what Paul calls a glory to a womon, her long hair. This has been carefully combed and brushed, and Is now, with great care, so as not to disarrange its curls and crimps, placed by the fair Flora on her lovely head. The wig adjnsted, tho great work is done.

Being made up, Flora now devotes all ber attention to her tigbts. First removing the little sack, and tucking in the little—what shall we call it?—Hauberk—that she wears she begins to pull up her tights so as not to leave a wrinkle in them this she does by means of strings securely sewed at the joining of tho silk stockings and cotton trunks, and having pulled them up to perfection, she crosses the strings at the back and bringing them around her waist ties them in front. This done, the girl nuts on those infinite gauzy skirts, adjusts a ribbon coquetishly, adds some "stage jewelry" to ber lingers and ears, takes a last peep at her glass, aud giving a little exclamation of delight is metamorphosed from the dowdy little girl of an hour ngo into the ballet girl of the period.

Hark I the call-boy's shrill voice is beard, and with a pirouette and a whirl she bounds on the stage and bows to the plaudits of the appreciative daque. as if she didn't kuow there were such innocents in tho wide, wide world.

Tits Blue Laws of Connecticut could not have been highly relished by "the boys" of that generation. We quote a few of those in foroe in the "Dominion of New Haven," aa a sample of what we have escaped:

Every man shall have his hair cut round, according to a cap. Whosoever brings cards or dice into this dominion shall psy a line of five pound".

To pick an ear of corn growing in a neighbor's garden ahail be deemed a theft.

No man shall court a maid in person, or by letter, without first obtaining consent of her parents five pounds penalty for the first offense, ton for the second, and for the third imprisonment during the pleasure of the court.
