Then we remember a trick that was pluyed upon us when quite yonng—before our stock of common sense was as immense as it is now—by another boy who was quite young, and quite devilish. It was during the prime of fn unusually horrible winter scene of trick, the wood house. The young devil informed ns that if we should touch our tongue to the axe, pleasures the most enchanting would thrill through us, and stars of the most magnificent effulgence, (or words to that effect), would dance befere our eyes. We seized the axe, lapped our tongue upon it, and— well, you can easily imagine the result. We didn't experience any enchanting pleasures, but we saw a number of stars. IN plain English our tongue was the glittering steel. We hl*M« .od dlaconraged!

DURING the Curistmas holidays, a high-toned young gentleman called at one of onr Jewelry establishment and looked at a watch and chain which be said he thought of purchasing to present to his sister. He asked permission to show It to a relative, a well kuown citixen, before concluding the purchase. He t-iid not return it,neither old be respond with the cash when a bill was sent him. The relative was interviewed, but he disclaimed all knowledge of the transaction. Vigor ous moasures were thought of by tbe jeweler, in which he ^contemplated calling in the aid of the Uw, but, one day this week, the property was returned to him in a manner quite unexpected. It was brought in, to have a broken band replaced, by a "lady" who did not prove to be a sister of tbe dtdiuquent, nor to be related to him in any manner recognized by the social code, as said code Is understood in respectable circles. She was informed that the watch belonged to the establishment, having never been purchased by tho high-toned young gent, and that it would be retained. It was retained. Sic transit, etc.

Lrm-B NBLI.."—Tbis charming little actress, known as the "California Diamo nd," played at the Opera House Wednesday and Thursday evenings, to good audiences, considering the intenselvcold weather. While the drama of "Fidelia," is or the usual trashy sort, jointed together solely for tbe purpose of bringing out tbe songs, and dances and character changes of this bewitching young actress, yet tbe two entertainments gave the liveliest satisfaction. Mr. R. E. J. Miles, manager ofj Robinson's Opera House,Cincinnati, was with ber in person, and promises to bring ns other star* and novelties as the season progresses.
THE Agnes Wallace Sensation Comedy Troupe, made its first appearance at the Opera HottS9, last night. The andience was not large, but what it lacked in numbers was made up in enthusiasm. Agnes Wallace seemed to be laboring under a severe col I, but tn^de a dashing, sprightly and bold Robin Hood ,while Sam B. Villa was immense as Maid Marian.
Lovers of burlesque opera can enjoy a pleasant evening to-night, when will be produced a grand bill, including a roaring farce and Pet and Pippins," with Agnes Wallace as Price Albert, Sam Villa as Emma and Harry Wilson as Gezler. This will be tho last performance. Seats can be secured at the Central, without extra charge.
