What is thai, children asked a young pastor, exhibition to hls8ut*uayschoolji magic lantsrn picture of a poor (tinner clinging to the cross towering out of stormy waves in mid ooean. "Robinson Crusoe 1" was tbe Instant reply.
A gentleman was chiding his son for staying out late at night, and said: "Why, when I was your age, my father would not allow me to go ont of the house after dark." Then you bad a deuce of a father, yon bad," said the youug profligate, whereupon tbe father very rashly vociferated *1 had a confou tided sight better one than you have, you young rascal.
A few days ago rwldurtt of Detroit was taken sick and sent for a doctor. Tbe doctor left a prescription and with it a request that one of tbe children should call at bis office the next day snd say bow tbe patient was doing. A little girl came, and when questioned, she promptly answered, "Please sir, father is getting better he's broke the stove all to nieces this morning, and been a-lighting mother, just like be used to I ff-ttfp.i'-i'!
A youth of ten years, residing in BlnghiuiiLou. played so lougon a recent afternoon that he did not yet borne until supper was over, and consequently was tmd that he could have nothing to eat. Casting one look boblnd, he started for the door, at the same time remarking: "Mother, I'm going to die, and when I'm dead I want the doctor to cut me open and look at uiy stomach." MOLUK AND HEll DOG In tho Rogue's Gallery In tho New Orleans I'ollus Department there is the picture of "Mollio Watcrumi and her dog." Mollle was no thief. SV»e was iievor known to st^al anything In her life, and yet she was classed auioug thieves booause her dog bad a habit of stealing. Mollle would go into a store and examine goods, jewelry, laces, etc., and the dog was always at lier side. {She bad a way of telling tho dog just what she wnnted out of a store, and then she went out, and the dog hung around. When the shopman** back was turned, tbe dog never failed to lay bis teeth on the article that Mollis wanted. Ho punctually brought it to bis mistress at hor rooms. Sometimes the dog took little things that be thought Mollle might want, without any hint from her. Mollie and her dog bad a perfect understanding, worked together for several years, snd wore "very dear friends, as events prove'd. One day the deg was caught stealing. Mollie Hew to his rescue. She exonerated the dog. and actually accused herself of being the thief, 'the police took her at her word. She said she was willing to do all tbe suffering, end pay tho penslty, but lagged the Jailors to sparo tbe dog. The jailers had tbe pliotograph of Mollie Waterman and her dog taken and bung up among the rogues. They them told her the dog had to die. without judge or Jury. She prayed the inexorable police to take hor life, but sparo tho dog's. They would not listen to hor appeal, and, killing tbe dog before hor eyes, they flung his blooding carcass Into Itor cell, and locked her up. The next morning Mollie Waterman was found dead In the cell, with tbe dog in b«r arms. There was an instance of devotion.*

Tho surfeiting wo r11 undergo daring this season of iruit brings Into action the family pill-box. It is a little singular how much hunting has to bo done to find that box. The party who last ueoded Its services doesn't reuiember where he loll it, and doesn't on re to think of It at all, while bo whose turn now occurs, Isn't exactly tortured to death by an anxiety. Wesra not quite sure but that thorelsafaint hope down somewhere in hi* breast that It may uot be found at alt. Some people swallow a dose of pills without a qualm, and afterwards go Around looking as proud and overbearing as a boy whose father plays in a band but the most of us aro more delicately constituted, and counting out a dose of pills while some one else gets tbe water, and observe* U»at be doe*n't see how any one can swallow tbe awful things, Is about as serious sn undertaking as can be lottnd on record. There Is something too awfnlly solemn about it to describe. And It Is a little singular that while a man can swallow whole whortleberries, cherry pits, and even bucksbot, without any uueasiness at all, yet a single pill will catch in bis throat, at a particularly ticklish spot, and hang there for hours, and make faces at his stomach. And a man In a fix like that Is not exsctly the party we would select to concoct mottoes for a ,festly*l^
