QKTTISQ married.

The Wav To Make Young Men Oomc to the Scratch.

From

the New York World.) Everybody knows how Mr. Augusta. Moddle, on the day which was fix'd with bis anion with Miss Pecksniff, was not forthcoming and substituted /or his own proper person a slip ol pa* per. expressive of his unworthiness of such a prize and his prayer that she would become the proud bride of a ducal coronet. Probably every fiction has its corresponding fact, and they certainly are not wanting in the present instance. On the 1st of May our columns contained the statement tha Mr. Richard Pettlt, an attorney in Philadelphia, had committed suicide on the eve of the day fixed for his wedding. Early this year a young English clergyman, engaged to the daughter of a gentleman of high position, disappeared on his wedding morning.and about the same time a young Dublin barrister of extremely good standing attempted suicide on a similar accasion. A few years ago all London rung with the disappearance of an athletic young parson, Mr. Speke, brother and heir of the African traveler What proved to be the prevailing cause of this extraordinary conduct? Apprehension as to marriage. Indeed, we nave little doubt that the nervous, short-sighted man, of whom John Parry the inimitable comic vocalist, used losing until his audience were sick with laughing, who discovers to his amazement and consternation when the ceremony Is concluded that he hus married "Jane the maid" instead of her mistress, has bis counterpart in real life. When a young officer was going into action for the first time an experienced Colonel, who had a special interest In the lad, marked the signs— by no means unusual in such cases—of the white feather In bis young friend. Laying his hand kindly on his shoulder, he said: "Now, my boy, you believe me a man of my word, don't you The young fellow replied, indeed, ho did. "Weil," was the rejoinder, "when I was your age, I felt as you are feeling now, and a friend guessed as much. 'Look here, ne said, •1 know how you feel, and I solemnly swear to vou that if you flinch one inch a bullet from my hand goes through your brain.' In fill kindnoss gay tbo same to you, my young friend." Thore was no need for the bullet. Tbo young ofllcor fought like fury and lived to win distinction on many a Hold. Nervousness is not identical with eowiirdlce, but a person suffering intensely from it imperatively needs sympathy. Probably had these nervous bridegrooms had friends who guessed their feelings and dared to speak a few plain words all would have gono well. To go through an ordeal without being ablo to confide to a soul your hopes, fear. and feelings, is to highly strung, nervous organizations torrible.

IN Smolander's liuchu will be found a special remedial agent for kidney, bladder and glandular diseases, mental and physical debility, extreme nervousness, diabetes, gravel and maladies peculiar to iomales. It assists nature in expelling these diseases, and is a valuable diuretic, diaphoretic, deobstruont alteratlvo and tonic.
