HEALTH HINTS.

Warm bread "pack*" the stomach. n't eat ... The beat and safest tooth wash Is tepid water.

Warmth, abstinence, arid repose, are three excellent medicines. In sleeping don't "curl" the body. Sleep 8» straight as possible. Avoid hich pillows.

Never sit or sleep with cold feet. A mixed diet of vegetable and animal lood the best the vegetable portion should predominate.

Regularity of the time of eating has much to do with the preservation of the health. Do not eat late suppers.

Water standing tor along time in a room becomes impure, Wy absorbing noxious vapors from the atmosphere.

All sleeping rooms should be

lk°r"

oughlv ventilated. Tbe bedding should be often changed and kept well airai. "H-iy Fever" may be instantly relieved by bathing the nostrils and closed eyelids with spirits of camphor and warm water. "TYboever eats "heavy" pie crust or "HOj^ry" bread commits a crime against his physical well-being and must pay the penalty.

Yuoroughly cleanse the cellar. enti'ate it from without, Summer and Winter. Sufl'«r no decayed vegetables to remain in it.

Coils are often caught by standing in an open doorway or hall during cold weather. The transition of the warm an'l cold currents causes the trouble.

An eminent physician thinks that more than thirty thousand deaths are caused annually by tight lacing.

Wet and damp clothes should be in stantly removed. "Why?" Because thev rapidly chill the surface of the bocfy, the heat being carried off byevap ora:ion. PROPER SELECTION OF FOOD.

There is no country where there is so much dyspepsia as in America, becauso our people pay but little attention to food, and eat too much meat for the exorcist' tboy tako. If one has mental labor, fish every second day, at least, is requisite. SOUJM set all the glands at work, and prepares the stomach for the more Important functions of digestion, and, therefore, should be takon at dinner every day. Beef broth is to the old what milk Is to the young. Cooker

attended to, keeps a man If the stomach is out of order,

ft

the brain is airocted. We should eat more fruits, vegetable*, soup and fish. Good and wellprepared food beautifies the physique, the imo us a good and well-directed elucuiort beautifies the mind. Wrinkles am produced by want of variety of fond. The man who does not use his brain to select and prepare his food is not above the brutes, who take it in a r.iw sluto.

patent for "curing colds," although there are plenty of assumed patent compounds for this object. Somebody, who does not evidontly bold his proscription by legal grant, otters the following which Is a plain and ^nsiblo process:

Medicines will not cure colds. Opening the skin Is important, but the principal matins is a reduction of food. You have eaten moat twice a day. Kit none for two or throe days, if the cold lasts so long. Use only plain, unstlmulatltȣ, vegotable food, drink plenty ol cold water on rising ami on lying down, and keep your legs and feet warm by frietk'.i and a frequent change In your woolen stockings, say twiceaday. This list Is important,"

FELON ON THE FINUER. Mitny persons are liable to extreme Muttering from felons on the finger. The*e alHletlons not (infrequently occasion permanent crippling of the members aflHCteil. The following simple prescription is recommended as a euro l"r the distressing ailment: Take common rock salt, such as is used for Haltiug down pork or beef day It in an oven, then pound it !ino and mix viith spirits of turpentine, in equal parts. Put it In a rag and wrap it around the parts affected, and as It gets dry, put on more and in twenty-four hours we are cursed—the folon will be dead. It will no harm to try It.

TARRH.

Tite best cure In the world is Accomplished by doing two things—only two. it will cine three cases out of four, Infallibly: Fir*t, let your nose alone second, avoid taking* cold. Catarrh Is a 'id. settling in the head and nose, and a* long as it remains there, preserves the lungs from danger. If you shufl].' anything up in the nose, in proportion a* it arrests or diminishes the running of the nose, the eye, or throat, it is certalu to show itself In the lungs, within a very few days, and even In a very few hour*, sometimes,—Hall's .Journal of Health.

TrfK economic (1 housewife is now engaged making soft soap. All the bones harvested through the winter, Including the pair the heir has saved up for clappers, are now undergoing that subtle process known as boiling. The heir himself with half dozen other boys who have kindly volunteered to share his labor and bread and molasses, are tending the lye rectifier, and the fond mother with her husband's linen coat kii her back and a pair of his boots on her feet Is Hying around in an absurd way, wearing tha poultry, jawing the Ivy's and titling tho air with an odor that would turn tho stomach of a skunk,

RI.VO-WOI»M.—'Tbfcs disagreeable affection may b« easily and speedlly cured as follows I'pon retiring at night apply ft poultice of damp gunpowder U*tbo part affected. (iener.illy one application is smttclent, but if, on the following night, there are no live Indications of a curt? having been ©tVeoied, anply again, and tho eruption will specify vanish.

A oooo remedy for ttolsoo Ivy is to dissolve a tablespoonful of copperas In two-thirds of a teacup of boiling water, and when cool, apply to with a cloth to tho poisoned place*. The coppmras kills tho poison and does not Mem to Injure tho person using it.
