TEA BISCUIT are made by working into apiece of light dough or cream tartar buscuit one egg and a piece of butter. Roll it out an inch thick, cut it round with the lid of a dredge-box and bake. uTo MAKE SHOBT-CAKES.—Rub quarter of a pound of butter into a half pound of flour mix with a little water—enough to form a dough. Roll it out into thin round cakes, prick them lay them in shallow tins, and bake.

By this means thn slices will be browned evenly all over, and besides, if allowed to :-arain in a colander placed in a warm oven, will come to the table entirely free from the disagreeable fatty taste peculiar to this dish when fried in the usual way. Serve up hot.
To WASH FLANNEIA.—Make a strong suds of white soap, and have the water as hot as you can bear your hands in. Wash your flannel out quickly, rub' bing soap on the spots if tbere are any and never leave the spots until the stain is removed and all soap washed -out. When the flannel is quite clean, dip it up and down in very hot water, and when you are sure that all suds are removed, wring it well hang it where ,4k it will dry quidcly, and if possible, in the wind. Iron it while damp between clean ironing-cloths, and hang it to air before putting it away. If it is Welsh •*s flannel, always mix well a little indigo in the rlnsing-wntt i",

From the Commercial Advertiser.] While in Rochestor I met Mr. Hebbard, an old rosident of Genesee County, who saw Sam. Patch mako his fas' mous jump ofTGenosee Falls thirty or forty years ago. He aaya that jump day was a great day in Rochester. The people gathered for miles around to see this intermittent Amerioan jumper as he performed his last feat.
Sam. Patch had previously jumped over Niagara, Then, saying, "Some things can bo done as well as others," he slashed around like Sergeant B-Ucs through the Western part of the State to back up his proverb. Before his last jump he bought a big black bear or a circus man, and led him over the turnpike to Rochester.
The morning of the 4Ry came. Sam. bad arrived in town with the black bear, and the crowd rushed into Rochester, from miles around. Twolve o'clook was tbe hour to lump—to jump a hundred feet down—down the terrible fall into the boiling caldron below. A staging had been built out over the water, and Sam appeared on the stagdressed in a sailors fancy jacket. His friends now took up a collection on shore, while Sam swung his hat and said aftSMr jumping himself he would return ana throw the bear over. Then, amid a deathlike stillness, he ran a few steps and gaveono leap into tba air and Ml, cutting tho mist like a lead sinker, two hundred feet into the sMlhing whirlpool. As he left the staging his body assumed an oblique position, his head foremost, but above his feet. As be struck tbe water there was a. dreadful silence, while the populace awaited with choking breath his reappearance. One minute—two minutes—three minutes—and no signs of the
