articles pleasing to .the eye as there, as witness the hundreds of hyacinths, tu lips, crocus, Ac., growing in glasses and pots. The great variety of baskets and stands, the handsome pots and vases, the pretty gold fish, and the new style cages. It will repay a walk of two or three squares farther to look at them

Sugars and Teas, Crackers and Cheese, Honey from Bees. And things like these.

Go fill up your larders, ad lib or ad arbitrum. Tis easy to do it, just go there and buy'em. Where? Why to Turner A Shillito's, of course. They can fill your order for anything, if it's iirtown, even if they have to send out for it. It's seldom that they have to send out,

have been trying to help the city of Terre-Haute by laboring to build up a jobbing Book and Stationery? trade in ber, and now there are men who claim to be citizens of the same place follow ing in their track and telling their cus tomers that Terre Haute is no point at which to buy School Books, when they know that these same customers can buy as cheap in Terre-Haute as any where In the world.—[Our Advocate.

THE holidays are coming on and what nicer surprise could you give your wife, who takes so much pride in keeping the house neat and cosy, than by having Moore A Haggerty set up for you one of those elegant marbleized mantels and grates While on this subject we will add that few people now-a-days think of going to any other than Moore A Haggerty for tin, copper or sheet iron work

THERE is a shoemaker in town who wants a boot tree planted on his grave when he pegs out, to show them that awl is over. This we find in an exchange, and we only use it as an introduction to a statement that at No. 10 South street, thejr continue to sail RnnU »nd Shoes at those marvelously low prices which have established an immense trade with people who find it necessary to economise.

7

Mary had a little lamb, 8be anked a man to aboot It, And when he went to kill that lamb,

It bad tbe epizootic. To change the subject, we will remind the reader in want of a coal or wood oooking or heating stove, or any kind of tinware, that R. L. Ball is in need of money, and is offering extra Inducements in the sale of his wares.

J. B. LYNB, opposite the Terre-Haute House, by keeping none but the purest liquors, has established a fine reputation among dealers and consumers. He makes a specialty of Pure Kentucky Whisky, of whieh he recently selected iu Kentucky seven different brands of pure hand-made copper-distilled, and the same number of sweet-mash, cop-per-distilled.

SAT what you plesse, a nloe "Sunday Dinner," on a day when yon have time to enjoy It, is mighty nice, and to have such a dinner, leave your orders for grooeries. game, mince meat, oelery, oysters, apples, cranberries, grapes, canned fruits and jellies of all kinda, at R. W. Rlppetoe's, White Front, No 155 Main street.

THE episoot has not yet affected the sale* of harneaa, saddlea and brldlea at Peter Miller's popular establishment in the old Pestoffioe building, and he baa a fine stock of such work made up. Ho also keeps a good variety of the beat made trunks, valisss, etc^ at the very bottom pricea.

Tu bells have keen frequently described by poets as ringing the changes, bat T. XL Riddle undertakes not only to ring the belles bat also to provide them with gold and silver watebea, ear ringa, bcoodhea, studs and jewelry of every kind, la tho most chaste and elegant designs aad qaalitlsa.

IT would seem almost incredible if we were to state tbe number of grocery stores in this city, and the wonder would be how the proprietors could make it pay. The fstet is however, that the bulk of business is done by about a dozen establishments. Among these is that of White A Melvin, southwest corner of Fourth and Cherry streets, who, by keeping a large stock and the choicest groceries, the freshest country produce, flour and feed,, com' mand a very large and constantly increasing trade.

THERE is no excuse whatever for not making a decent appearance in society, especially when it is remembered that Brennan A Co. on Ohio street, keep on hand a splendid and well selected stock of piece goods, which tbey are prepared to making into elegant and durable suits, at such remarkably low prices. Tbe recent advance in the prices of woolen goods has made no change in their prices. They employ good workmen, guarantee fits, and claim to sell lower than any other house in the city.

THE Boston Fire destroyed all the Boots and Shoes on hand in that city. The immense loes of stocks has had the effect of increaseing the price of Boots and Shoes from ton to twenty per cent. Engles A Tutt, south side of Main, between Fourth and Fifth streets, were so fortunate as to have purchased an immense stock of goods prior to that calamity. They propose sharing this good fortune with their patrons and will therefore, for the rest ol tbe season sell at the old prices.

W. H. BANNISTER has a reputation among our citizens who have a liking for comfortable, neat fitting and stylish garments that needs no extolling. For sterling goods and sterling work no merchant tailoring establishment stands higher than his. He has, for winter wear, a fine stock of piece goods, and furnishing goods. The man who buys bis winter goods without seeing Mr. Bannister's stock, does himself and his pocket a flagrant injustice.

AN absent-minded man entered Noyes Andrew's.shoe store, and want«d hia boy measured for a pair of boots. "But where's the boy T" said Andrews.

Thunder!" said the man, "I've left the boy at home. I'll go and bring him," and off he stsrted lor his house, half a mile away. This reminds us that N. Andrews has a choice stock of boy's ready-made boots. Tbe boys all want boots now.

"A THING of beauty is ajoy forever," and as the gold and silver watches, rings, pins, studs, buttons, bracelets, chains, sets, and every variety of jewelry sold by S. R. Freeman, under tbe the National House, are things of beauty, such a joy can be obtained on easy terms. Mr. Freeman has a gorgeously rich "lay out," to select from for holiday gifts. An early call should be made for choice designs.

CHRISTMAS and New Years are near at hand, that glad and joyous season when presents are in order. Speaking of presents, what is more appropriate, and what is more highly prised than an elegaut pbotograpblo portrait in a handsome frame. From dear relative, and from friend to friend, this is just the thing, and the place get an artistic picture is at D. H. Wright's new photograph gallery.

MIGHTY comfortable, this weather, is Riddle's underwear, of which he has a fine stock for both ladies and gentlemen. Try them on.

The Boston Journal, in commenting upon one of the Rubinstein concerts, pays tbe following deserved tribute to the piano-forte used by Rubinstein: "Weshould be guilty of injustice if we neglected to mention the piano used by Kubinstein at these concerts. It is a Steinway, and is one of the finest instruments ever heard in this city.
