THE LITTLE PEOPLE. A little girl who was visiting the tarn
lly of a neighbor, heard them apeak of her father as a widower, and on her return home, said, "Pa, are you a wid-
Jower
"Yea, my child. Don't yoa
know that yonr mother is dead?" "Why, yea I know that mother Is dead: but then yoa always told me ithat you were a 2*ew Yorker."
In a certain school the geography class was called up to pass examination 'before the committee man, and ques tions were asked about St. Helena and the grave there ot Bonaparte.—" Where ..has he since been entombed?" was the next question. "In Paris with great pomp," answered the pupil, very readily, and in the exact words of the book. "Right and what do you under stand by 'great pomp?' asked the com mit tee-man. "A big nigger!" respond ed the youth and then, observing a su prised expression creeping over the faces of the listeners, be added, "I s'poee thev buried him with one of his old slaves/'
AX IMPROBABLE BOY
"Allan! Where is Allan A moment sgo he was playing with hint little cart in the yard, hauling dirt to the currant bushes. I can not tell how many cartfulls he carried. He was busy as a little man. But Allan is gone. Whero is his carl? "Allan! Allan!
I'se here!" at last said a small.veice from tho back parlor. What are you there for?" asked his mother, opening the door and looking in.
Allan did not answer at first. He was standing in the corner, with pretty sober look on.
Come out to your little cart," said his mother it is waiting for another run." "I'se not been here long 'nuff," said the little boy.
What are you hero for at all asked his mother. I punishing my own self. I picked some green curran's. and they went in to my mouth," s"iti Allan. "Oh! when uiM.tier told you not to? Oreen currant* will make iny little boy eick." said his mother, in a sor.y tone "You needn't punish me," said A1 Ian "1 punish my own self. 1 lis mother often pat him in the back parlor alone when he had been naugh ty, and, you nee, he took the same way with himself. "Are you not sorry for disobeying mother?*' she asked. "I sorry but sorry Is not 'uuff. punish me. I stay hero good while and have thinks.—[Probably written by a fond parent.

WHERE8 THE BABY?
sspr
crlpt vouches for the following: tain ly currod. Tho bereaved parents requostol the judge to watch by the remains ol tho little departed, and ot courao he consented. As the night hours sped their weary length along the judge became exceedingly sleepy and weary, so looking around
ho saw a bureau, and drawer thereof found
trying tho upper il oapj
it empty and capable of being locked. He accordingly placed the dead baby in the drawer, locked it, took out tho key, put the latior In his pocket, and rotircd to rest on a sofa. Awaking early, and having a call out ho entirely forgot the events of tho preceding night. At court hour he was punctual In attendance, and was deeply engaged listening te the counsol when a strong whisper startled him. "Where's tho b»by?" A fumbling In ills pocket, the delivery of the key, and a few explanatory words delivered all parties from their somewhat uncomfortable predicament. The above is vouched tor as true.
Wa always like to record instances of woman's love and devotion. Here is an nlTcrtlng case A man of Matteawan Homo yoarw ago wont West, leaving behind him a young and blooming wire 11o returned unexpectedly, recent! cpectedly, recently, his old home. IIo and went at oneo to his old home, found his wife cooking dinner lor Homebody olse, with a couple of children playing on tho. floor who didn't belong to the house when he bossed It. "Hairy Jane, here I am ngain." "Well, Hfiimnv, tho boat thing you can do is to go hack again. I've married another fellow." "Stilry Jane, can you lia\e proved so falseT Oh, lickle, tickle woumn." You Just get out,and stop calling me names. I like my new hnsband best, ami 1 don't want you loafing around here making a muss. "Sairy Jane, you'll be sorry for this. I came baek to you with my heart full of love, and mr pockets full of money. Will you still rol'uso to return to the heart which is thlno always and forever." '•How muou money have you got?" "Seventy-live thousand dollars." "Dear Sammy, count me In. I'm yours while the money lasts," and she threw heritelf impulsively Into her Sammy's arms. This is a very touching instance of a true wife's devotion. The oecond husband hsa been heard to say that be Isn't going into a decline because of Nammv's return.
