SEWING MA CHINES.
At the County Fairlast week a prom inent and interesting feature, especiallv to the ladies, was the exhibition of Sewing Machines. There was also lively competition on the part of the representatives of tbe several machines Tbe Wheeler A Wilson, tbe Weed and tbe Howe machines were located at the north end of the Fine Art Hall, and the Singer aud Grover A Baker at the south end.
Of the latter we wish to say a few words. Until tbe first of January last tbe Grover fc Baker sewing machine was but little known in this community, for the reason that no active, energetic agent had been sent here. At that time Mr. N. H. Bledsoe, the present agent, came here, and by industry, tact and a thoro.ugh knowledge of his business he has built up a trade which we are told is alresdy second to none in this city, snd is constantly increasing.
In the recent excellent pamphlet issued by Iugalls & Co., entitled "The Advantages and Attractions of Terre Haute," we find it stated that the Grover A Baker Sewing Machine Company is the only company that offers tbe purchaser tbe choice of stitch, aud tbe only company also that gives crash hfemmers with their machines. They stitch, hem, fell, cord, braid, quilt, puff, gather, and sew on ruffle, embroider, fringe and excel in every style of machine sewing.
The show rooms of the Agency are located at No. 96 Main street, where the visitor will be kindly greeted, and Mr. Bledsoe or his assistants will take pleasure in showing in addition to the sbove, other points of excellence.
S. L. STIIAUS, wholesale dealer in Millinery and Fancy Goods, has now his house full of new fall goods. He has been in the business for tbe last fifteen years and knows how and where to buy and is therefore enabled to compete with any house iH his line, east or west, Milliners and merchants will always find at his bouse everything they need in his line, and, what is more, everything at the right price. Don't fail to give him a call at 149 Main street, Terre Haute.

CROAKERS!
CROAKERS! CROAKERS!
There is a class of croakers who are predicting an unprofitable fall business in con--quence of the Presidential election. We take no stock in any such predictions. We look tor an enormous trade during the next six months, and we are making our preparations accordingly. We propose to inclease this fall our enormous sales of last season at least THIRTY PER CENT. We shall do this by offering a more beautifully assorted and attractive stock than ever before, at even smnller profits than in the past.

SPECULATORS!
SPECULATORS!
SPECULATORS!
An infamous ring of New York speculators, making the high prices of wool and cotton a pretext for their rascality, formed a combination some weeks since to bolster up and sustain the present high prices of Dry Goods until after the Western merchants had visited New York and laid in their fall stocks. Our New York partners have been watching their movements, and while these speculators have been craming Western merchants full of goods under the false statement that "goods must be highwe have refused to buy a dollar's worth of goods except In such cases as where our terms have been compiled with. The market is now breaking, Just as we knew it would, nnd the result will be that we shall get our fall stock at a very ranch lower figure than those who have allowed themselves to be "stuffed" with tbe notion that goods were going up instead of down. Our customers will not have to pay the high prices that other Western merchants must necessarily charge.
FOSTER BROTHERS,

SLOW-COACH ERS!
SLOW-COACHERS! SLOW-COACHERS!
A very large amount of tbe Dry Goods business of the West Is done by "SlowOoachers"—men who were educated In early life to doing a small business at fearfully "big profits, and wbo refuse to accept the new order of things and keep up with the improved business principles of to-day.
They expect to make as much money off of annual sales of 990,000 as we make off of oar annual sales of WOO^OO. Tbe result is that while onr trade keeps on rapidly Increasing. thereby enabling as to keep our rtiyt always new, fresh and attractive, their basinets stsgnstes and wastes swsy, md their stock of goods become old, soiled and unattractive. The Fall Trade Is now t»H If our (Meads respond as generI'IMIJ we believe they will to our sllbrts to please them, our trade this tell will rtaf largety eaeeed that of last season.
