TUELL, RIPLEY A DEMING.
[From the Bridgeport (Conn.) Leader. ONE LITTLE BRIDGEPORT INDUSTRY.
The Immense business of the Howe Sewing Machine Company of this city may be conceived from the fact that they have manufactured during the seven mouths of this year, ending August 1, 96.000 Sewing Machines.
They msnufiictured in the twentyfive working days of July, 12,500 completed machines, which is 500 machines for each working day, beside manufacturing the full parts of 125 machines daily, which are sent from here to their factory In Scotland, to be set up or "assembled." It will be Been from this that this one manufactory is making over one first-class Sewing Machine per minute, during every working day of the year. This company, with all its facilities, are unable to keep up with its ordes, and is doing everything possible to increase them.
It can safely be computed that they will complete not less than 170,000 Sewing Machines the present year, and as the lowest wholesale price of their cheapest machines is $45, the product of their manufacture will not be less than $7,500,000.
We do uot publish this statement with anydtsire to "puff" the importance and amount of manufacturing Industrios of this city, but we see so many long articles in the column of State papers, dilating upon the magnitude of the business of their manufactories, whoso sales are tut a fow hundred thousand dollars, that we could not resist the temptation to give a fow figures connected with our own.5
With tho above the following from the Indianapolis Journal will also be of Interest:
Tho management of the ijterest of tho celebrated Howe Sewing Machine in this city has recently undergone a change. Mr. A. K. Josselyn, formerly theablo and sufficient manager of the allalrs or the Singer Company in the States of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois aud Michigan at this point, has now assumed control of the business of the llowe Machine Company In tbe territory embracing the greater part of the r. IT... 1 ».i
States of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Iowa. His headouarters are IOCBcuted temporarily at Jso.TOWest Washington street, Indianapolis, but will 9oon be removed to Chicago. It is hardin this community of Mr. Jo8selyn's qualifications for the position. His well-know energy, Integrity and business capacity are sufficient guarantees that the affairs of tbe company will be puahed forward in an honorable and busineae-like manner, and with a degree of success ootnmensurable with tbe great merit of the Howe machine, which baa world-wide reputation
Mr. Folta, the former agent bare, w'.ll continue to set ss the local sgent of the company in supervising its interests in this city snd oounty, under tbe direction of Mr. Josselyn.
Messrs. Cbsppell and Van Duser, tbe old agents tor the Howe machine in Michigan, continue in charge of the local agency in Detroit snd Wayne county, also under Mr. Josselyn's supervision.
Wc understand that the Howe Machine Company are extending everv facility to Mr. Josselyn, that the bnsi* nets msy be made the leading one of thia nature throughout tbe whole of tbe extenalve territory, and consequently are employing a large number of men in every county. We may add in this connection that the Josselyn ramlly have a sewing roschine reputatbat is almost national. Mr. H. R. Josselyn, of Detroit, tormerly associated with Mr. John J. Bagley, also of Detroit, present Republican candidate tor Govenor of Michigan, and Mr. A. K. Josselyn, constituting the Ann of Josselyn Bros. A Co., in the
