Monday last was a big day for paying taxes. County Treasurer Sankey and his assistants received over 9*^0,000. Nearly that amount was taken in on the Saturday previous. City Treasurer Paddock rewived over $15,000 on Monday, and took it all in without assistance. Tho number of delinquents Is •cry large, much more than last year, amounting on the county honks to 978,000 or 80,000—perhaps a little more.

the teacher's meeting on Saturday last Mrs. Moore read a paper cn "What shall we do with our boys?" which we bear spoken of in very high terms. We learn that she has been solicited to repeat it in Shelbyvillo. and will probably do so at an early date.

Tun Criminal Court has been in session only two days this week Monday and Friday. Ou Monday tho case against Michael Conley, assault and battery, was dismissed that against Win. Nelson was stricken from the docket. Joseph Brooks for assault and battery was ftued $5.
Jacob Knarr, of Sugar Creek Township, was arraigned, tried, and acquitted on the charge of incest. Yesterday ho plead guilty to tho second charge of fornication, on which be was fined $30 and sentenced to a term ol thirty days in tho county jail.
