A gentleman in town has invented a very ingenious musical contrivance which he calls the snorette. He applies a rubber tube to the mouths of sound snorers and thus conveys the vocal respiration over a series of musical cords, producing tbe rarest and most sympbonious melody. We are assured that the bewitching song of tbe nightingale and the plaintive notes of tbe sco) in ft harp arc surpassed in sweetness by the tours of tho snorette. This instrument is as much superior in at tructivenesM and utility to the machine which makes persons consume their owu snores as th« eagle's flight is high er and grauder than the barn yard strut of a common turkey gobbler. The inventor of the snorette has some county rights yet fur sale. There is a tine opportunity for a few hundred active men to .ke fortunes by investing immedi-Uely in this most wonderful invention.

The principle defense which will be set up iu Stokes'trial will be that as bitter enmity existed between Stokes and Fisk, and as there were circumstances tending 10 fstubiish conspiracy to take the life of Stokes, the latter therefore committed the shooting in sell defense. Stokes' friends clal that a few days before the shooting men were discovered to be on hts track that they had been following him the week previous. An attempt will be made to prove at the trial that Fisk was armed when lie was shot: that a loaded revolver wa- taken iroin his person also, that the wounds from the bullets were insufllcient to kill Fisk. Every effort is to be made by Htoke's counsel to have the trial deferred as long as possible. There seems to be no sympathy ii| the communit) for Stokes.
