WK, the undersigned, merctf AVitii and business men of Terre-Haute, believing that the building ot the proposed Southwestern Railroad is of the most vital importance to the interests of this city ana necessary in order that we may retain the trade of the section of country through which this road will puss and believing that this trade will bfe very largely increased if railroad facilities are furnished toil and believing farther, that, if the present movement to seeure this road is not successful, no occasion »s favorable will ever again be alTorded and being satisfied that this enterprise is in the bands of men known to this community as men of honor, of enterprise and of much business talent, and wbo are devoted both by their interests and instincts,to the growth and welfare of our flourish-ingc-ity we do respectfully but most earnestly appeal to our fellow citizens to vote for tbe proposed appropriation, by this township, ot one hundred and tifty' thousand dollars, to assist in the construction of this road, at tbe election to be held by order oi the county commissioners oh Monday January 22nd, 1872 and since there is danger that those wbo favor this appropriation may neglect to vote under tbe belief that their votes will not be necessary to secure tbe election In favor of the road and whereas it may be expected that till those opposed to tbe appropriatUp yrill take great care to cast ana influence every vote possible, we do still further respectfully but most earnestly urge, every frienu to this enterprise to see to it that not only h}s Otoh vote is surely polled but also the v6tes of his friends and neighbors whom he mlny knbw to be favorable to the making, by the township, of tbe appropriation asked -V 8. To start a building In May orJuae,to ran for brick* layers, «af|*nterx Slid other mechanics, and find them all busy and invariably putting lp you the query, "have you gotyout plans made out that ye may give you a figure?" la no way to build economically, anU without trouble. Therefore gel your plan* aa ssrly ss yon can save money sndttme.

Prleea far a complete set of plaua Varj much according to the kind'and sise OT building, There Is no sense in the absurd Insiuukffon made by interested pnrties thaf architects chsrgee eight snd ten per cent, commission upon the opst of bu lding.

Tbe regular standard commission for architects aervioes oomplelete 6 per cent, upon cost services complete embraces: study plans, definite plana, elevations, sections, detail drawings, specifications, letting ol works, superintendence and selling oi accounts.

Tbe commission for store buildings is three-quarters of two-thirds that, of dwelling houses and other structures but a commission of architect'!* services will Invariably be reduced in percemage when the cost of building exceeds $25,000,u0, gradually decreasing till it reaches about 8 per cent, lot a 8100,000,00 building. The commission is also reduced wlieu mote than one buildlug is erected upon onedesignnnd specification, and by one set of mechanics,

For all buildings let by contract to the lowest bidder we will adhere to tbe reguiar charges of architects. But we piopose hereafter to charge only half of the regulai commission to the customers not requiring the letting to tlie lowest bidder that is to such parties who select their bricklayers, stone cutters, carpeuters, etc., in advance oi preparing the plans, and are confident thai these will do a good Job at moderate prices. Our reasons lor such a reduction lays in th» different amount of work to prepare plane for the different manner to execute the work.

With the letting to the lowest bidder, plans and specifications mast not only be made very correct, but are te be perfectly drawn, duplicated and full in tbeir details, otherwise there is no contract—disagreement and contestations invariably arise between the builders and the proprietors—for a bargain has been made for a certain sum for unknown quantities and qualities of work so contracted. Th as a lull set of plans, details and specifications are of strict necessity to contract with the lowest bidder, and hence the necessity of corresponding cart and labor for the architects to prepare the documents.

While thus making a difference in prices we do not pretend to advise people In which manner their work must be done such cases there are plenty, in which the lowest bidders are wanted and such cases we have, when the closest economy utast give way to procure superior woricmabship. Each party, who intends to build the best Judge of: the manuer to erect the work. ., ..
