TJRW. JOHNSON'S Plantation Minstrels pave nn excellent entertainment at tin Opera House last night. The members oft he rou|a? conduct themselves in tht moat genteel manner, and their per formancea are free from vulgarity and are of the most laughable character Thia Is pronounced the best genuine plantation minstrel troupe that ever visited this city. They will give matinee this afternoon and another performance to-nipht.

THE first masquerade ball of the season will take place at Dowling Hall next Thursday evening. The ball will be given by Toute A McKennon and no pains will be spired to make it«a complete success. We learn that half-fare arrangements will lie made to accommodate persons coining from Mattoon, Paris and Charleston. A large attend ance and a jolly time may be expected.

A VERY pleasant hop, the most enjoyable ol the season, transpired at the 'lWro-llaute House last night. Lovely woman snd heroic man were both there. Several hearts beat happily and when music urose with its voluptuous swoll, soft eyes looked love to eyes which spoke attain, and all went merry as a marriage bell. (Not entirely original.)

Having determined to establish a for department in connection with onr dry goods we respectfully explain tbe Hcbeme.

As a first-rate utock of furs requires sn invent men of eeveral thousand dollars It haa been cuatomary for tbe dry gooda, ha', aod certain notion houaea of our city to handle these goods In a "ainall way." This has divided the trade to *0 great an extent thai no one haa had a really well aanorted utock and neither merchant nor couaomer has reaped any material advantage.

Last year we were disposed to give np tbe trade but ss no one seemed disposed to make tt an attractive specially we have determined to do so.

This year we will offer these goods in Car greHter variety than they have ever been displayed in Terre-IIaute.

We anticipate that some who really do not care to engage In the lra4e will a*/(empt to clo«e out the "atock on hand" At eost, and we underand that 10 make our undertaking a success we most keep below Uael prices.
