CITIZENS whose cows herd in the river bottoms do without milk the greater portion of the time. The "fallen angels," now so numerous iy those regions, are accused of appropriating the kine to their own subsistence.
A HPIRITBD fight among half a dozen mon and women of the lower strata, took place on the Western bank of the river, near the Vandalia Railroad bridge, on Monday afternoon, greatly to the amusement of several persons standing on tho opposite shore.
THK Prairio City Guards will give their first ball, at Dowling's Hall, on Wednesday niglit. The proceeds will go toward the purchase of a* new parade uniform. A grand time is anticipated, and all who attend may expect to bo fully repaid for their time anil money.

Ho is engaged in building a house for Felix Hoard, of Pierson township, where tho theft was committed. Tho tool chest was pried open and the tools taken without creating any disturbance. Tho burglars have not yot boon discovered.
LAST Wednesday a teamster from the country horse-whipped a gentleman of the same vocation, in tho open space north of tho Clark House for stealing some cheese and crackers. The whip'ee ran with such velocity tliat bin retreating form darkened tho front of the Clark House no longer than it would have taken galvanic shoyk. to travel from his fingers to his toos. -s

A MAGNIFICENT Pullman Palace sleeping car—the "Westerly"—is now running from Terre-Haute to Cincinnati via the Vandalia and Junction roads.
EVERY berth in a Pullman Palace Car, for New York, by the Vandalia Line from this city, has been taken for next Wednesday night.

CHAS. THOMAS,a young man living in the northern part of the city,states that an attempt was made by a couple of masked and disfigured men to assault him while passing along north Seventh street on Thursday night. As he had been assailed before near the same place, he immediately decided to stand his ground and recognize them if possible. Pie soon discovered them to be two young men with whom he had be fore had some difficulty.
AT the Plymouth Chapel to-mirr6w Rev. O. D. Crawford completes his three months' engagement with the Association. Sermon at 11 o'clock A. M., on "Vows." At 8 p. M. Farewell Sermon. A thorough canvass of the field in which the Chapel is centrally located, and the three months services,discloses the need of a working church there and it is hoped one will be organized at an early day. For the present some of tho meetings are to be continued by laymen, with occasional ministerial help. The Sunday School, which has been five years under the efficient Superintendeney of Mr. C. C. Oakey, has largely increased since tho removal to tho Chapel and will continue its good work under this devoted laborer and his zealous assistants. The entire fu turo work of the association is one of interest and hope to all our good citizens, and to religious people in particular. Mr. Crawford spends his vacation at his homo in Iowa, and hopes to return in September to the Chicago Theological Seminary to complete tho three year's course of study.
