The "dead beats" oannot bo furnished wish free board and lodging at the Station House wit hoot gratifying their own moat heart-felt wishos, and involving the city in great expenseThen comes the only alternative—to release them on a promise to pay np. The only effectual remedy fur such individuals is to provide them with labor. (Jive them employment in grading and graveling streets, digging and repairing gutters, Ac., and the Mayor's court will soon be rid of the majority ot those who are unable to pay their little bill of seven dollars, for Indulging in all the luxuries of a gutter drunk, or a back alley snoow*.
