A MAN named Michael Young, hailing from tins south part of the State, on his way to the West, was robbed of §28, all tho cash he had, at one of the saloons on Main street night before last. The robber was arrested and is now confined in the Station House.

AT AIITON was put in the Station House last night for getting drunk. He was called for this morning to answer tho charge, when it was found that some one had given him whiskey without tho knowledge of theStation House keeper, in sufficient quantities to put him in a state of beastly intoxication.

HE Howe Sewing Machine business in this city has been suspended on account of the burning of the factory at Peru. Mr. Cheeny, tho agent, will be unable to supply further demands until the factory is rebuilt, as his supply on hand at tho time of 4he disaster has been exhausted.

ANVASSERS for the new city inkp are meeting with good success, but it is not probable that private subscriptions ilone will enable the City Engineer to proceed with its publication. Tiio action of the Council on next Tuesday lit will determine whether or not the map shall be completed.

Tuesday afternoon when it was understood that the bill concerning tho fees and salaries of county officers was likely to pass tho legislature, three of our county officials might have been soen, carpet-bag in hand, striking for tho Indianapolis depot. They didn't propose to submit to such an outrage on theirftloarest rights if they could help themselves, and it seems tint they have not been able to help themselves.

A PETITION is now in circulation among the citizens of the southeastern part of tho city, for theopeningof Ninth street from Poplar street to the southern limits of the city. Tho petition is in the hands of energetic men who are endeavoring to have it ready to present to the City Council at their next meeting. Most of the property holders interested favor this movement as it will be a source of great convenience, and will also greatly increase tho value of property in that vicinity.

drug store to his new building on tho southeast corner of Main and 7th streets opposite tho Terre-Ilaute House, where he has fitted up one of tho most complete aud admirable drug establishments in the city. The store room is twenty-live by seventy feet, and is finished in walnut, with concave ceiling. The whole building is an ornament to the city. The hall of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers is on the third floor, and there are five handsome offices on the second floor, all finished in the best and most desirable style.

IIE following letter, addressed to "The Most Hon. Attorney, Terre-Hauto, Indiana," was received in this city on Tuesday. It is a lino specimen of Missouri intelligence, and shows the reputation for divorce facilities which Indiana has acquired abroad:
