incident connected with Christmas day has come to our knowledge which is so sad and strange and beautiful that wo cannot refrain from publishing it even at this late day. A well known and popular citizen who is a devout Catholic, and whose place of business is on Main street, was the father of a child, aged about throe years, which from birth had been weak and sickly, an object of great care and intense affection from its parents. Tho best medical advice had been sought and obtained, but nothing seemed to help the little sufferer. From the day of its birth there had been a look of pain upon its features which had never been relieved by a single smile. We balieve it is always the case th it a weakly or unfortunate child is dearer to the hearts of pa rents than its robust brother or sister. It was so in this case. It had become a part of tbe father's daily life to pray often and fervently for this child. At tho dawn of the beautiful Christmas morning he prayed with unnsual earnestness and fervor that the Lord would bless and improve its condition. A Christmas tree had been prepared in lha household, and latfr In the day all tbe children, nuuabefing tb"i« or four, were gathered eagerly about. The child of which we have been apeakitifr, was among the rest, fh ih* Mtlf*t of th«. gleeful ex-
