Mr. and Mrs. Lacey Smith called on Mrs. Maybelle Stanley Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rine of Jasonville, spent Wednesday with Mrs. George Fordice.
This week is another week, though, and North Veraoa is the foe. North Verncs has played three games, winning two and losing one. How they will fare against Dugger is another matter. The football played over that way isn't usually up to what is played around here.
Games This Week
Thursday Brazil at Garfield Friday. Gerstmeyer at StJLLIVAN JDugger at North Vernon Linton at Wiley . Clinton .at Westville, 111. Bickriell "jat Boonville Washington at Bloomington , Vincennes at Princeton
The Golden Arrows ccme home this Friday for the first time this season. They have split two road games, but they should have won both of them. When Gerstmeyer comes to town Friday night, it will mark the second Western Indiana Conference contest of the year for the Arrows.
,You can bet your bottom dollar that Tech will be remembering that 19 to 18 upset triumph the' Arrows scored at Memorial Stadium last fall. The Techsters Were big favorites to take the game, but they couldn't stop Cal 'Hilgediek from running or passing, and went down to defeat.
Incidentally, the game will begin at 7:30 p.m., the starting time for all of the Arrow home games this fall.
By winning last year the Arrows tied the all-time series between the two teams at five wins apiece. And the locals broke a three game string of losses to Tech by doing so. Here are how the two teams stack up over the years: 1925 Tech 23, Sullivan 12 1940 Sullivan 14; Tech 0 1941 Sullivan 27: Trch 6
1942 Tech 14; Sullivan 0 1943 Sullivan 13; Tech 7 1944 Sullivan 18; Tech 14 1945 Tech 25; Sullivan 7 1946 Tech 26; Sullivan 13 1947 Tech 25; Sullivan 6 1948 Sullivan 19; Tech 18
By -rights the locals should have won over Garfield last Friday night, but they didn't have the fire and speed when it was needed. You can't blame the boys for the mistakes they made. With spring football out lfy IIISAA rule the coaches have to get them ready with just fall practice and it isn't enough time to master football fundamentals.
Brazil, riding on top of the Valley at present, goes against Garfield Thursday night and that game will clear things up a little. It will be the first trip to the Terre 1 Haute sandpile for the Red Devils, and they may be up against something when they get close to second base. The sand there is rough. v
The Imps, incidentally, haven't been overlooking Dugger's Bulldogs. The Times over there says that should be one of the best
games left on the Brazil schedule.' Coach Gabe Takats takes his Bulldogs into Brazil the week after Sullivan visits the Clay; County seat.
There seems to be a Tendency to sell the Dugger line short, and give Red Brewer all the credit for the Bulldog showing. But the Bulldog line is rough. In Carr and D. Hiatt they have a couple of fine ends, who can go and catch passes. R. Hiatt and Olson make" one side of the line a rough thing to go through, and Vaught and Bledsoe are more than satisfactory on the other side.
Brewer is good, but don't forget he has a good line in front of him.
And of that line the two ends and Olson are seniors. Only McNew in the backfield is a senior, so the Bulldogs will probably be good next year, too.
LOCAL
BIRTHDAY SUPPER A birthday supper was held Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kinnett at Graysville in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Gladys Kinnett of Sullivan. Dugger, incidentally, didn't look -too sharp against Huntingburg, from the reports we get. It probably was a let down after their win over Clinton. The boys didn't expect to take vthat game
by the. score they did.
