He was known for his teas, and endeared himself to Americans for good sportsmanship in his repeated unsuccessful attempts to win the America's Cup, international yachting trophy. In World War I he was an officer in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He has been a member of parliament, under-secretary of state for foreign affairs, lord privy seal, minister without portfolio for the League of Nations, secretary of state for foreign affairs. He served also in Prime Minister Winston Churchill's war cabinet. He is author of a book, Places in the Sun. Terre Haute Cufs Evansville Lead By United Press League - trailing Springfield made it two out of three against Evansville intheThree-I League last night by defeating the Braves, 4 to 3. Meanwhile, Waterloo strengthened its newly-won undisputed possession of third .place by beating Decatur, 8 to. 7, as Davenport again lost to Terre Hautej 8 to 5. In the fourth game last night, Danville avenged Wednesday night's drubbing by beating Quincy, 0 to 7. The Waterloo-Decatur game went 11 innings before Waterloo got the deciding run. In the ninth inning, Decatur got four runs and Waterloo tallied two.
