! The Golden Text is: "God so J loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3: 16). Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: "And Jesus, when he was baptised, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened

rN reading Psalm 19:7-14, it Is ml terestine to see how many differ

ent things the Psalmist says about ho Word of God. He calls it by

several words for the same thing. s for Psalm 105, where else but in t Bible would the poet have.

The reader of this Psalm will observe that the subject of most of the sentences Is GOD. As the poet reviews bis people's history, he shows that it Is not simply the doings of the Israelites, but it is God who brings

God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice

from heaven, saying, This Is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:16,17). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "The divine origin of Jesus gave him more than human power to expound the facts of creation, and demonstrate the one Mind which makes and governs man and the universe. The Science of creation, so conspicuous in the birth of Jesus, inspired his wisest and least-understood sayings, and was the basis of his marvellous demonstrations" (p. 539).

The Book of God WHAT the writers of these Psalms said about the partly-done

Bible, of their times is of course even-more true of the completed Bible which is our heritage as Christians. One thing they make

clear'is that this is first of all Uod s hook.. They knew as well as we do

that different human minds had a

part 'of it, but for all that it is always God whose message comes through what they wrote. The Bible, propCVly understood, reveals the mini of God and the will of God. The Bible reveals also the doings of God. His story is the weaving of God's" eternal decrees on the looms of time. Again, these poets see that

the Bible is for man and about man,

a guide to neaven, um laiuu a road map or to guide us through the mazes ot this world. Psalm 119 stresses this world, and no other, as the world on which God's light shines. The commandments of God are

so many lengths of barbed wire to

fence us in, rather road-signs to guide us on 'life's open highway.

The Bible presents the "How" of

living. It is God's map for me.

The Bible in The Heart

THE SENTENCE: "Thy word have I hid in my heart"

(Psalm 119:11) is the clue to the

right use of the Bible. When a-

Hebrew writer says heart ne

means something more than mere emotion. The word means character, what a man really is. A

oniinct TCnrean was learning tne

Sermon on the Mount, but making slow work of it. When a missionary asked him about it, the boy said, "I have to be slow. First I learn a verse, then I go out and live it. I can learn the words in a few , minutes; but it takes longer than that to live it." That is the right idea. One verse, translated into living, ' is worth more than a chapter that never gets deeper In than the edge of the brain. A kitten has all the time in the world. She might as well waste some of it trying to do the impossible. But man doesn't have all the time in the world. He has a brief span' of years in which to achieve his life's aims. Man can't afford to waste some of those years : arid strength and vitality as well trying to accomplish what is impracticable. One of religion's great services to mankind has been its revelation of worthwhile and attainable goals in life. Christianity has shown man the great potential in right living and the tragic futility of wrong living. 'Attend and support the Church. It can help you

choose the best goals . . . and attain them.
