Dodgers Face Cardinals in Crucial Series
By Stan Opotowsky United Press Sports Writer v NEW YORK, July 22. (UP)
The Brooklyn Dodgers ' today i braced themselves for an onslaught of superior St. Louis Cardinal pitching power in a four-game series which could de
cide the National League race. The first game will be played tonight, and then come single games tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. A Dodger sweep would send the fearful flock six and a half games in front of the pack, mighty hard to catch in the stretch. A Cardinal sweep would hoist the Redbirds into first place for the first time since June 25. St. Louis must win all four to get the lead.

St. Paul Increases Association Lead (By United Press) The Toledo. Mudhens battled thrbugh 11 innings and edged the Indianapolis Indians 2 to 1 last night, the second time in as many days that the bottom team has whipped the strongest contender for the American Association lead. The leading St. Paul Saints beat Milwaukee 4 to 3 at Milwaukee last right; Columbus won 7 to 4 at Louisville and rain postponed Minneapolis' game at Kansas City. Toledo's Hal White and the
Indian's Mel Queen battled
but they caught Colonel Pitcher Mike Dorish and Reliefer pick Palm with a sudden attack. It netted three runs before a second reliefer, Jack Mueller, succeeded in stopping it. Mike Natison homered for ColUmbus in the second. The only association games on the schedule for tonight take Indianapolis to Columbus and Louisville to Toledo.
