MAN GIV1EN UNEXPECTED SENTENCE MILWAUKEE, July 22. (UP) James Smith, age 26, arrested for running a traffic sign, drew a three-month sentence but not for the traffic violation. Police said he was carrying a loaded revolver and his bike was one that had been reported stclen.
"And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross d'ly, and fellow Me. Frr whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life fcr My sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged if he gain the whole world and lose himself, or be cast away? For wJicsoever shall be ushamed of Me and My words, of him shall the Sen cf Man be ashamed when He shall c'pme in His own glory and in the Father's, and of the holy angels.", Luke 9:23-26.-- - ;,. ' ' - - It costs something to be a true follower, or disci ole cf the Lovd Jesus Christ and should not be lhtly undertaken. Christ did net promise His followers an easy life, or exemption from troubles and trials, but told them that "in the world thev. should have tribulation" and that "all who would live Gcdlv 5,n Christ 'Jesus should suffer nersecuticn." This world is no friend to Grace because it is
Devil controlled.. In speaking to His disciples in Jno. 15: : 18. Christ said, "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you" and the reason He gave
that they hated IFm was that "He testified that their works were evil." Jno. 7 :7. No rnfm likes to be reproved cf his evil deeds, or have his religious playhouse torn down, but it is better to have it come tumbling down abcut our ears here, than hereafter, when it is too late to build agfin on the rock, Christ Jesus, a house that will ' endure. He is the "Rock cf Ages" and only what is built on Him alone, will stand. What, may I ask, are you who read this, living for? Ave you seeking only the nr.terial, changing things of this world, the things which gratify the lusts of he flesh, but can never satisfy the hunger of the heart; or are you one of the "few" who have fixed your affections on things abpve: the cnlv things that are of Eternal value? Any Fe that is lived wholly for one's self, and that is net linked up with the Lord Jesus Christ, is not cnlv a worthless life, but a positively "injurious" one for "None cf us liveth to himself and no man dieth to himself." No man can live in this weld without influencing ethers, either for good, or for evil ; and no life lived apart from Je
sus Christ can possibly influence any for good; neither j
can a hie lived tor, and in Christ, fail to influence others for good. We are either tak'ng folks with us, to Heaven, or to Hell, according to whether or not. we have the Lord Jesus Chr'st. As the song says, "Live for self, 'you live in vain ; live for -Christ, you live again ; live for Him, with Him ycu reign; pass it on; pass it on." God never called anv cne to Salvation, that He did not at the. same time call to service. We are God's witnesses. In Rev. 19:10 we read, "The "testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy," wh;,ch means that we have something to tell; something without which all men are lest and on their way to an Eternal Hell. We. who are saved, and knew the lord Jesus Christ, are "debtors to all men" Rom. 1:14; we owe it to them, to tell them that there is a way of escape; that they need not go to Hell. As we read in Acts 20:31 we should "cease not to warn every cne n:,Tht and day with teas" and in Jude 22, "Of some have compassion, making a difference, and others save with fear, pulling them cut of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." We should so warn men that we could be able to say, as in Acts 20:26, 27, "I take you to record, this day, that I am 'pure from the blood of all men ; for I have not shunned to declare unto ycu all the counsel of God." Whether you realize it or not, my friend, if you are unsaved, your Spiritual house is on fire, and will burn eternally unless ycu arouse yourself and "escape for your life to the mountains" (Christ). If you could only be made "to realize the aful fate that awats you, if you die in your sins, and the blessedness of knowing that it is well with your scul, surely you would bestir yourself and seek until ycu find Him (Christ) precious to your never dying soul. Won't you do it now, while you still have the oppor-
p I tunity ? Tomorrow may be too late.. (Adv.)
