Dodgers Sireich
eague Lead As

By Stan Opotowsky United Press Sports Writer NEW YOC',1'" Juiy-! 19. (UP) Jack is ninjele, , Jack is quick and
that's Whafcmakes the Dodgers click. V . The lack ..in question is, of course, Jackife , Hobinson. His searing speed 'oh the basepaths today hoisted Brooklyn to a two and a half game lead over St. Louis, the Dodgers' greatest margin since June 18 in the : everclose National League race. Two games yesterday provided the impetus for this Brooklyn
stride ahead of the field. The Dodgers beat Chicago, 3 to 0, and the Cardinals were tumbled by a 12-hit New York Giant barrage, 7 to 4. But standing out above all was a picture of lightning Jackie striking the Cub home plate. In the sixth inning, with the Dodgers leading by a scant 1-0, Jackie walked, stole second and took third on Mickey Owen's bad throw. Twice from third he faked at stealing home, only . to-, dive back to the base when Cub Pitch er Bob Rush tried to pick him off. Then Jackie made a third lunge at home, and this time he wasn't fooling. As he sped down the path, Rush held the ball, gawking. Robinson slid in safe for the run before the stunned pitcher made his throw. It was the second theft of home in three games for Robinson, his third of the season and his 23rd stolen base. The Cardinals were simply
pounded to death) by barrage-
which included homer by Sid Gordon and Bobby Thomson. The key to the game was, the big seventh inning in which the Giaqts scored four runs. Pittsburgh scored seven in the eighth inning to beat the Phils, 7 to 2. Cincinnati pushed across five in the third to lick the Braves, 6 to 1. And the payoff came at Detroit, where the game went into extra innings before the Athletics scored five in the 10th to lick the Tigers, 13 to 8. The Cincinnati rally was the most amazing of all, since all five runs were scored with two out. Six of the 15 Red Jiits came in that inning. ' ' ' The American League's prized rookie pitchers, Mike Garcia and Mickey McDermott, locked in a brilliant mound duel at Cleveland. And it was the Indians' Garcia who won out 1 to 0, when Lou Boudreau singled,, went to
second on a sacrifice- and scored on Jim Hegan's double in the fifth for the game's only run. The White Sox beat the Yankees, 6 to 5, in 10 innings and took sixth jilace ahead of Washington.
Indians Cut Lead Held By St. Paul By United Press Lanky ' Jim Delsing's ninth inning homer with one on gave Kansas City a 5 to 3 win. over St. Paul last night and cut the Saints' lead in the American Association to one game. In other Association games, the Indianapolis Indians beat Columbus 8 to 6 at Indianapolis and set the stage for, 'another bid for first place. Louisville edged Toledo 5 to 4 at Louisville, and . Milwaukee
beat Minneapolis 8 Jo waukee. .

The Saints and the Blues battled hammer and tongs at Kansas City. The Blues picked up a one-run lead in the second. The Saints matched it in the third and stepped in front 2 to 1 in the fourth. Kansas City's Bob Keegan, who gave up eight hits, then held St. Paul scoreless until the top of the eighth, while the Blues were making it 2-all in the sixth. Going into the ninth, it was 3-all and ready for extra innings; but Delsing's homer off Reliefer Clem Labine broke the tie and won. Columbus kept it nip and tuck at Indianapolis too, but Jim Walsh halted . a ninth-inning Columbus rally at one run ' and blocked the Redbirds'- bid. The Redbirds outhit the Indiana 11 to 9 using two reliefers to do so. Milwaukee lowered the boom on Minneapolis with a six-run
