Initial Jobless Pay Claims Drop INDIANAPOLIS, July 15. (U.R) A drop of nearly six per cent in the number of initial claims for unemployment compensation was reported today by the Indiana Employment Security. Division. Col. Everett L. Gardner, division director, said 55,466 continued and 11,961 new claims were filed

A quarry worker and a housewife were killed and many other persons narrowly escaped injury when more than 4,000 volts of electricity shot through a telephone wire in a small farming neighborhood. The dead were Mrs. Edna Conder, age 44, Bloomington, and Earl Quillen, age 48, Sanders. Authorities said the Public Service Commission was investigating to learn how the utility wire sagged and came into contact with the telephone wire.

state order to close. State Labor Commissioner Thomas Hutson issued the close order after he said the plant failed to comply with requests to eliminate a dust hazard. He said the firm had been ordered to install air purifying equipment last. April and had ignored the request. The plant opened -yesterday, despite Hutson's order, which took effect at 7 a. m. .

The first half champs from Hymera took one on the chin last night in their first, game in the second half. Dugger, runnerup for the first half, bounced Hymera by a score of 6 to 2 at Legion Field. Dugger won the' game behind Richey while Scamihorn lost the
game for Hymera. , . Shelburn, behind the pitching of Weekley, beat Carlisle. 5 to 3 in another second half game last nipht. Davidson was the loser. The first game tonight, Eagles vs.-Rickards, will be a league game.

CURRY HOMEMAKERS The Curry Homemakers club
held their regular meeting July 8th, at the home of Mrs. Ernie Johnson at 1:30 p.m. . Her assisting hostesses were Opal Hall, Lethia Jennings, Bess" Nelson and Nora Caton, who served refreshments of pie and kool-ade' after which .the president, Bess Fulfbrd called the meeting to order with club -creed unison. Song of ' the month. Devotions by Opal Hall. Song, "The Church in the Wildwood" led by Edith Scott. Pledge to the flag. Lesson by Ava Blackford and Biverene Smith on Pasteruization of Milk.. Mrs. Smith demonstrated the pasteurizing of milk with an electric pasteu'rizing outfit. A gift of useful household articles was presented to Sylvia Harris whose home was destroyed in the tornado at Shelburn, by Flossie Puglf. It was announced a tea will be given July 22 at the Township Hajs; by the Onward club for the Homemakers club.
The. picnic in Auipt will also be with the On-vard club at -a? Sullivan park. Roll call. A committee with Virginia Bosstick, chairman, was appointed to arrange a booth at the 4-H club Fair in August at Sullivan. Nora Caton passed out packages of flower seeds and presented Faye Johnson who gave one of "Punt" Batey's original poems. Bess Nelson gave the interesting bit which was an old-fashioned pair of scales which had been, her grandfather's. Door prizes were won toy Myrtle Bohannon and Iris Blackford. .
