TO CELEBRATE 60TH j WEDDING ANNIVERSARY j 'The Rev. W. E. Ashby ' and wife who formerly seri-ed Hyimera, Shelburn and Farmers, burg in this area will be honored by the Mitchell, Ind.. Metho

dist Church with an at home at the church celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday, July 21st in the jvening. The couple was married as the final service in connection with the dedication of the Plainville Methodist Church which Rev. Ashby built, July 21st, 1889. Farmersburg circuit on which were Shelburn and Mt. Ebenezer and other points was the first charge served by the couple

figures which do callous injustice to a very warm tale. The Americans were in front by a slim 6 to 5 margin when the rangy Clipper stepped up in tne sixth. Two of his mates were aboard and he rammed them home with a sizzling liner which

bounced recklessly against the center field wall.

When it all ended, those were

the winning' runs in a rather drab, listless ball game marred by a fall of rain, errors and Na

tional League apathy.

In it all there was c-ne bright

spot the Yankee Clipper.

But then, this is a guy who

makes a habit out of transforming the startling into a commonplace occurrence.

It was only two weeks ago

that after missing half of the season he came back to the

New York Yankees.

It is typical of Joe that in two

weeks- he made a team which

some players never make in a lifetime and then proved him

self by winning the ball game.

The Toledo-Kansas City game j turned into a pitching duel between Hal White and Tony Groth. i The Mudhens were the first to score, getting their run in the , third. But the Blues tied it iri the fourth, then pushed across the winning run in a bottom of the ninth thriller finish. Groth I gave up five hits to the Mudhens. The Blues got seven from I White. J The three homers Louisville exploded in quick succession off

Minneapolis produced five runs whfch shot the Colonels off to a wide second inning lead. The Millers fought back but never made up the deficit. Today's games take Toledo to Milwaukee, Indianapolis to Kansas City, Louisville to St. Paul and Columbus to Minneapolis.

Indians Whip Brewers

Cut Sf. Paul Lead By United Press The Indianapolis Indians won

double header at Milwaukee last night and moved into position to

grab the American Association lead from St. Paul today. The Indians won 5 to 4 and 11 to 5 from the Brewers. In other Association games, St. Paul defeated Cilumbus 9 to 1 at St. Paul; Kansas City squeezed out Toledo 2 to 1 at Kansas City, and Louisville won 11 to 4 from the Millers at Minneapolis. The Indians, who have taken the league lead a half-dozen times this season only to have the Saints steal it back, won the twilight opener with a seventh inning run that broke a 4 to 4 tie. Then they blasted six i runs across in the first inning of the nightcap. They slammed out 19 hits in the nighter off the offerings of three Brewer pitchers. But the Saints looked powerful too. Phil Haugstad shut out Columbus for six innings, letting the only Redbird tally slide past in the seventh. Both sides were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Then a two-run homer by Earl Naylor sparked a burst of activity that put St. Paul ahead 3 to 0. The Saints piled on six more in the next inning.
