the lampreys attach themselves to fish "with their round, sucking mouth and with their rasping tongues and needle-like teeth virtually suck the life from their victims." The lampreys were blamed for
a fantastic decrease in catches of j lake trout in Lake Huron. In '
1945, commercial fishermen took "over a million pounds" from the lake. In 1948, the catch was only 50,000 pounds, Krumholz said. Now lampreys, normally an ocean pest, have been found 'in the Little Calumet River in Porter County near Chesterton.

Judge Charges Hiss Perjury Trial Jury NEW YORK, July 7 (UP) Federal Judge Samuel H Kaufman began charging the Hiss perjury trial at 3:25 p.m. today and an hour or so later it was to begin its consideration of the government's case against the former high official of the State Department. Kaufman began hp charge after the government and the defense had bombarded the 10 men and two women with oratory the prosecution contending that that Hiss was "a traitor to his country," the defense maintaining that the government's case was an outrage built on the testimony of a "proven liar." Shaking his fists in the air, Defense Attorney Lloyd Paul Stryker denounced the government's star witness. He called Whittaker Chambers a "psychopathic personality" and his wife a "deliberate liar." "If you don't believe Chambers, then the government has
no case," he shouted. I Comparing the 44 year old former State Department official with Judas Iscariot -and Benedict Arnold, the prosecutor said the
"uncontradicted facts" left the I jurors with only one inference: , "That this defendant this smart, intelligent, American-born man . gave govenrment documents to Whittaker Chambers." ! ATHLETES FOOT GERM AMAZING RESULTS IN ONE HOUR

Zany Columnist May Turn Author INDIANAPOLIS, July 7. (U.R) Zany Columnist Ed Sovola says he'd be willing to write a book about himself and his experiences provided that 30,000 readers put up $2 each in advance. Sovola, who has devoted stories in The Indianapolis Times to his feats of counting leaves on a
I tree and selling $1 bills for 79
cents, said he didn't want to spend "a year or two slaving over" a book just to "find that publishers consider me as popular as black plague." If readers put up their money in advance, however, he said he will start writing the book, entitled "You, Too,", which will include "several little projects that couldn't be reported in a family
And Krumholz said there was "great danger" they would infiltrate into "the Mississippi River drainage basin."

An Indiana University zoology instructor warned that sea lampreys have invaded state streams. He said the small eel-like parasitic animals had created an "alarmingly real" threat to fish in Indiana lakes and rivers. Louis A. Krumholz of I. U. said
