Cards Trim Dodger Lead To'One Game

It was in relief for Harry Brecheen that Pollet won the game yesterday. Victory came for the Cards in the 10th inning on Al Schoendienst's single, Marty Marion's single and Stan Musial's force-out. By United Press The St. Paul Saints stretched their lead in the American Association to a full game by drubbing Minneapolis 16 to 4 last night while the second-place Indianapolis Indians were idle. In the only1 other games scheduled, Kansas City took a doubleheader from Milwaukee 3 to 1 and 6 to 4 at Kansas City. The Saints jumped to a threerun lead in the first inning of their game at St. Paul. Then, in the bottom of the third, they exploded five runs past starter "Bobby" Robertson and eight hander Bob Callan, who was thrown in hurriedly as a replacement. The Millers came back with a four-run blast of their own in the fourth, but Bill Toenes had to relieve Callan on the miund in the bottom of the innings to stem a renewed Saint attack. Afer that, the Saints couldn't be held. They knocked Toenes out in the fifth and scored almost at will off. Alex- Konikowi'ci' after that. George Brown pitched eight-

The Indiana club defeated Danville 6 to 2 to pull within one game of the Illinois team in the only game played last night. Rain postponed Evansville's game at Decatur, Quincy's at Springfield and Davenport's at Waterloo. Danville scored its only two runs in the last half of the first inning. Terre Haute came back with three in the third and added single runs in the' fifth, eighth and ninth. The winners outhit Danville, 10 to 5. Tonight Quincy is at Waterloo, Springfield at Davenport, Danville at Decatur and Terre Haute at Evansville.
