: The Elephant Can't Forget' Indiana Republicans are still bewildered over the election results, even though 'that happened a month ago. They are still trying to find excuses for their loss, which was to them very surprising.
A group of Indiana leaders met early this week in Indianapolis to discuss ways and means of getting the remnants of the 'party back together. They had an assortment of excuses for the loss in the election. .The main reason they feel they lost in the election was the inter-party fight for the nomination for governor and the wounds that fight left. They could be right, but perhaps the real reason is that the Indiana voters "were simply tired of the Republicans and Mr. Gates. The retiring governor said at that meeting: "... I haven't yet found anything to apologize for in my four years as governor." Maybe he hasn't, but the voters' did a good job of repudiating his party. ; , Rep. Ralph. Harvey, one of the four Republicans still in the House of Representatives from Indiana said: The Dem
ocrats won bv default. I he people aiani turn out, to vulb. Yet, it is an old political saying that a large vote favors the Democrats and a small vote favors the Republicans. Senator William Jenner, who lost the bitter fight for the gubernatorial nomination, probably said the most logical thing: . But nationally we need new leadership. There s something wrong with a party that loses elections for 20 years. I'm 'tired of losing elections and not knowing why. Yes, Senator Jenner, there is, something wrong with the Republican part v.' It is too conservative, and it hasn't adopted a program of its own for those twenty years. It has tried in the last four elections to win with a "me too" man, and it hasn't worked. . . ... .. ,
. It consistently goes against the "little man ana me farmer. It wasn't any organized group that defeated the Republicans'. It was the failure of a Republican Congress to do anything. for the American people when it had a chance. It ias high, prices and a shortage of goods, with the high prices coming after the Republicans killed OPA. It was the failure of a Republican Congress to keep farm prices up, and to see that, look-at corn and other farm prices today. The elephant can't forget that it lost the election, but will the lessons learned in the election change the party any ? We doubt it. The elephant can't forget that it is the party of the privilegecU,..,. ,:..,., ', . '

"For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." (Heb. 11:6). Before we seek anything, I think you will agree, that we must feel a need first and the one thing we all need most, not only in this life but in that which is to come, is Christ. Ps. 72:12, 13 says, "He shall deliver the needy when he crieth: the 'poor also and him that hath no helper; He shall spare the poor and needy and shall save the souls of the needy." , Will you notice it says "He will deliver the needy when he crieth." Would it not be better to shed a few tears over our sins here than to spend eternity in a place where there is only weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth?,. 2 .Cor. 7:13 says, "Godly sorrow for sin worketh repentance unto salvation not to be repented bf, but the sorrow of this world worketh death." ' Ps. 34:6 says, "This poor man cried and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles." Has He heard your cry yet? Jer. 29:13 says "And ye shall seek me and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart." Yes, my friend, there is a seeking co be done if you really find Christ. Luke 13:3 'says "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Prov. 28:13 says, "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper but whosoever confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Before you will ever receive the cleansing of your sins from God, there will have to be a deep desire in your heart to be free from sin. God sves from sin; not to sin. In John 5:5-10 we have the account of a man "who had had an infirmity thirty and eight years and when Jesus saw him lie and knew that he had been now along time in that case, He saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole." That sounded like a foolish Question, did it not. to a man
that had been afflicted and helpless that long, but do you know! 4.1 A. 11 I I A. i - -! 1 1 1 , ,
mat. au who nave, noi come to nnsi ana oeen maae wnole are in ,the same condition, spiritually speaking, and many are content to remain in this state. As long as you are satisfied to mess around in the filth of the world, God will let you wear your .dirty clothes, but when you are through with sin and mean it, He will give you a new outfit that will never get dirty nor wear out; one that will enable you when your time comes to change worlds, to stand in His holy presence unafraid and unashamed. About all people are asked to do anymore is to accept Christ but do you know that unless He accepts you,, you are still unsaved and if he accepts you, you are going-to know it. There is nobody saved that don't know it. Rom. 8:16 says "The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God." 1 Jno. 3:24 says "And hereby we know that He abideth in us by the Spirit which He hath given us" and 1 Jno. 4:13 says "Hereby know we that we dwell in Him and He in us because He hath given us of His Spirit." ' . ' Rom. 8:9 says. "Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" and let me say here that no one who has not been-born again has the Spirit of Christ. This is why Christ said "Ye must be born again." When we have this experience the Spirit comes in to abide forever and to seal us unto the day of redemption. This is when we meet God and are given eternal life, as Christ Himself said in Jno. 17:3 "This is life eternal that they might know Thee, the only true God and 'Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." Do you know ; Him?. If not, determine in your heart to seek diligently until you find Him and" may God bless you in your quest. "Then shall we know if we follow on to know the Lord." Hos. 6:3.
