Consider The Nut and The Bolt Thirty years ago that was 1918 and right after World War I the United States, England and Canada began negotiations to standardize screw threads on nuts and bolts. The experts in .the three nations believed if they could reach an agreement they could solve one of the big problems of the machine age. It was a troublesome problem in peacetime, an acute one in war. The other day 30 years, a second world war. three kings arid six presidents later the agreement was reached. If you buy a Canadian made refrigerator and want to get it repaired in the United States you soon will be able to do so.

If Canada buys some American automobiles and they break down north of the border, a Canadian mechanic can find a Canadian bolt or screw that will fix it. If an American tank is incapacitated in England for lack of a bolt, an English bolt will fix it quicker than we can fly one over. Sound silly? Perhaps, but there's a, great lesson in this news. If it takes 30 years to settle an international problem over a nut and a screw, we can well realize that the greater problems of the world like peace,, for. instance can't be settled over night. ' , .. Just as it took years and years to get machine tools synchronized in three of the world's many nations, so it may take years and a lot of patience to settle the larger problems. Those who look with scorn on the United Nations because that great organization hasn't worked a miracle in its very few hectic years and those who -would junk this great machine for peace as a failure at this early date will do well to consider the nut and the bolt. The threads of human nature and national pride may be a little harder to synchronize.

T. A. D. O. HOME EC. CLUB MEETS The T. A. D. O. Home Economics club met Wednesday, November 17, at the home of Mrs. Kathleen Hawkins. A covered dish dinner was served at noon. The afternoon meeting opened with pledge to the flag, club creed and song of the month with .the history .of .the song given by Mrs. Violet Ladson. Roll call was answered by nine members. Devotions and poem by Mrs. Ladson. Mrs. DeLois Moss and Mrs. Virginia Hollingsworth gave the lesson on "Balanced Meals for all Ages." The club prayer closed the. meeting. Mrs. Joyce Boone held two contests .with prizes going to Mrs. Dorothy Thomas and Mrs. Kathleen Hawkins. Those present were Mesdames Marie Williams, Dorothy Thomas, Maxine Hiatt. DeLois Moss. VIRUS PNEUMONIA FATAL TO TWO EVANSVILLE, Novv 29. (UP) Doctor said today that virus pneumonia took the lives of a 63-year-old woman and her daughter within two days of each other. Mrs. James Effie Oliver died in a hospital here Saturday. Her daughter, Estella, age 34, died Thursday.
