Ex-farm boy Ex-clartnetist r JOBS UPON A TIME About 10 years ago Eddy Arnold, radio troubador, left a west Tennessee field where he was plowing, slung a guitar over his shoulder, and set out to seek his fortune as a singer. At home, after his day's farm work was done, Eddy had been in the habit of rid'rg a mule to play and sing at square dances and candy "breakin's." Eddy's first job on the radio was with a small band on a Jackson, Tenn., radio station. By 1943 he had established his popularity enough .to strike out on his own. Eddy's a composer of folk songs, as well as singer of them. When Giovanni Martinelli was 20, a bandmaster in the Italian army heard him singing and advised him to study.
