CLUB The October meeting of the Modern Manner Home , Economics club was held with . a masquerade party in the shelter house at the city rcark on Oct. 12. with Mrs. Paul Cramer and Mrs. John Larson as hostesses. Best dressed prize was won by Mrs. Carolyn Hancock. The meeting onened with the club creed and singine "On the Banks of the Wabash" in unison. Devotions were given by Mrs. Wayne Pope. The lesson. Paul Cramer and one guest, Mrs. Carl Morrison. 4-H'ERS VISIT SPRING jMTLL PARK ' Four hundred 4-H Club members attended , an outing at Spring Mill State Park, Friday. Oct. 22. The group left Sullivan at 8:00 a. m. and returned at about 6:00 p. m. While at the park, the group enioyed the many trails, the Village with the old mill, the caves, and the beautiful fall scenery. Locals Mrs. Walter Routt is confined to the St. Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute, following an eye operation. R. H. Crowder, Tom Reid, William Borders, Wendell Tennis, Max Russell and Earl I Baxter left Friday for Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where they will spend a week fishing and hunting. . Mrs. Walter Scott and daughter, Susan, of Terre Haute, spent Saturday in Sullivan visiting Mrs. Faye Stotts. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Spiece have moved to the Jennings Apartments on West Washington Street. Mrs. C. P. Stewart, who has been the guest of ' friends here, has returned to her home in Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Dutton are spending the winter in Newark, New Jersey with Rev. and Mrs. Wilfred Riggs. Mr. and Mrs. Will Foutz have returned from Indianapolis, where they have been the guests of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Stauffer and son, James, of Vestaburg, Michigan, who , have been the guests of Rev. and Mrs. Jack Anderson and family, have returned home. Mrs. Joy Metcalf has been called to Tularosa, New Mexico, due to the illness of her grandson, Steven Thomas Rosemary. Mrs. Rosemary is the former Lois Metcalf. Miss Mary Fowler of Marion, Indiana, was the week-end guest of Miss Rita Fightmaster. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnston' and son, Jack, of Pontiac, Michigan, have returned home after a visit here with Mrs. Johnston's mother, Mrs. Irene Chaney. Mrs. Josie Lowdermilk has returned from a visit with Mrs. Mervin Engle in Indianapolis. Wallace Wray, who has ' been the guest of his brother, Lester Wray and family in Pontiac, Michigan, has returned home. McCoy, Misses Minnie Mattix and Eva Tate spent Sunday in Brown County. : ' Miss Frances Sinclair, who has been the guest of friends in Washington, D. C, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Sebree and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Benefiel visited friends and relatives in Greencastle, Indiana and Martinsville, Indiana Sunday. Mrs. Rachel Cooper of Mooresville, has accepted a position at the Indiana State Police Headquarters at Indianapolis. W. R. Herbert of 247 South Section Street was admitted to the Mary Sherman Hospital Sunday for treatment. Mrs. W. C. Smith and son, Bill, of Hartford City, Indiana, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. G. COUNTRY GIRLS CLUB The Country Girls club were delightfully entertained recently at the home of Lucille Boone, the occasion being a shower for Wanda Wildin, who received many lovely gifts. Games were enjoyed and refreshments were served. Those present were Delia Anderson, Irene Anderson, Ruth Alsop, Margaret Bedwell, Agnes Brashier, Inez Brashier, Mary Borders, Ada Brown, Dorothy Dillingham, Elizabeth Davison, Pearl Metcalf, Ann Morrison, Ruth Metcalf, Clara Evans, Lila Stoelting, Laura Lemmons, Rpena Pirtle, Anna Sims, Edna Stinson, Kathryn Webb, Lulu Wesner, and the honored guest, Wanda Wildin. The next meeting will be at the home of Margaret Bedwell at 1:30 Wednesday, October the 27th.
PLEASANTVD1LE W.S.C.S. The Pleasantville W.S.C.S. met Tuesday at the home of Daisy Corbin with Ellen Spencer as co-hostess. The meeting opened with song followed by devotions by Mrs. Karns and songs by Gloria and Dearella Brown and Betty and Martha Hendrickson. Discussion on prayers of the Bible by Carrie Harbin. Edith Ann Bicknell was welcomed into the society. Contests . were held with prizes going to Thelma Benefield and Carrie Harbin. Each guest was presented with, a packet of calling cards which were hand painted by Mrs. Corbin. Delicious- refreshments were served to Edith Ann Bicknell, Lola Frye, Mrs. Bertha Clark of Granger, Wash., Bessie Walters, Carrie Harbin, Verna Spencer, Margaret Creager, Thelma Bene field, Georgia Andis, Blanche Daugherty, Julia Brown, Gloria and Dearella Brown, Debbie Karns, Ina Garrison, Hazel Newkirk, Jessie Brust, Lorene Benefield and son, Lucille HarbTn, Vivian Cox and Brenda, Betty , and Martha Hendrickson, and the hostesses, Mrs. Corbin and Mrs. Spencer. , . CHURCH FRIENDSHIP CLASS MEETS The Friendship class held their October meeting Oct. 19, at the lovely new home of Mr., and Mrs. Bland. It was in the nature of a house warming also. - The dining room table was centered with a large bowl of mums. ' At 6:30 a covered dish dinner, was enioyed. The business meeting was presided over by Mrs. . Crissa Watson in the absence of the president, Mrs. Faye Dugger. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The class is to serve dinner to the Friday Afternoon club on Nov. 12. Ways and Means of raising money was discussed. Nov. 1819 a white elephant and rummage sale will be held, place to be determined later. Mrs. Robbins suggested the class purchase some badly needed equipment for the kindergarten room. The president appointed Mesdames Robbins, Gouckenour and Springer to purchase same. Flower fund collection $1.69 and birthday money $3.25. Mrs. Selby thanked the class for the get well card. CIRCLE MEETS The Evening Circle of ,the Methodist W.S.C.S. met Tuesday night, Oct. 19, with Mrs. David Giles. The meeting was opened with the song, "Let the Lower Lights be Burning" and The Lord's Prayer in unison. Devotions were given by Mary Lou Bell and the lesson, concerning our work in Alaska, entitled "Among . the Northern ' Lights" was very ably given by Mary Giles. The meeting was closed with the Circle prayer. During the social hour Mrs. Giles served delicious " refreshments to Maxine Pittman, Martha Sue Skinner, Mary Grayson, Mary Giles, Betty Alumbaugh, Mary Lou Giles, Virginia Hollingsworth, Janet Shrum and Waneta Cramer. SUNSHINE HOjME EC. CLUB The Sunshine Home Economics club met Tuesday at the home of Hazel Newkirk with Jessie Brust, co-hostess. The morning was spent socially and a covered dish dinner was enjoyed at the noon hour. The afternoon meeting was called to order by the group singing "On the Banks of the Wabash." Beulah Sisil gave the history of the song. Club creed by Daisy Smith. Scripture reading by Melissa Jones followed by roll call which was answered with "the most interesting person I ever met." Minutes were read. Election of officers was held as follows: President, Georgia Andis; vice - president, Frances Wiseman; . secretarytreasurer, Verna Spencer; publicity chairman, Jessie Brust. Prayer in unison. A contest was held with the prize going to Opal Trimble. A. Cauldwell. Autumn flowers adorned the rooms. Pertinent information was most timely, with national election only two weeks away. This program had to do with our very special right, that of voting. In order to vote intelligently, a political rally was presented with members of the club taking the parts of the presidential candidates and campaigning vigorously with placards, pictures and information, such as birthdates, places of education and training, ambitions, hobbies, beliefs, promises arfd party platforms. Mrs. M. H. Bedwell represented Socialist Norman Thomas very forcefully; Mrs. Ralph Shepherd as President Truman, Democrat, was convincing; Mrs. Harry Lowry was successful in portraying Prohibitionist Claude Watson; Mrs. Waldo Wheeler as Republican Thomas E. Dewey, was eloquent; Mrs. Joe Ed Pierson with gestures and inflections became Henry A. Wallace, Progressive. Socialist Laborer Edward A. Teichert was scheduled for Mrs. Omar Nickel; Mrs. D. R. Fightmaster was platform manager and Mrs. Frank Linnell furnished appropriate music as each candidate was introduced. A straw vote was taken. During the business session, Mrs. A. S.
