Three-fourths of all , the states
give their people some form of
local option. Local option, defined
as "democracy applied to the liquor question" simply gives the voters the right to choose whether 'or not alcoholic beverages shall be sold in their locality. It is as fair to wets as drys." Through
local option, about one-third cl i America has already voted dry.
Why doesn't Indiana have local option? Why does Indiana drink five gallons per capita more in a year than Kentucky which makes
j 51 per cent cf all American whisky? Kentucky has 93 of her 12C I counties now dry under local op
tion. Local option works m reducing drinking and the attendant evils. Speak up, members of
the Temperance League. Why ; doesn't "Indiana have Local Op
tion? Reader
I notice in the Daily Times you have an open forum for anyone interested in Local Option. Why hasn't someone written? Are we all indifferent? No. Why do we
not have Local Option in Indiana?

HERE is a pleasant little game that will give you a message every day. It is a numerical puzzle designed to spell out your fortune. Count the letters in your first name. If the number of letters is 6 or more, subtract 4. If the number is less than 6, add 3. The result is your key number. Start at the upper left-hand corner of the rectangle and check every one of your key numbers, left to right. Then read the message the letters under the checked figures give you. FAIRBANKS SCHOOL NEWS School activities last week were
numerous and interesting as usual.
. Tuesday a movie about the 1947 World Series was shown in the
gymnasium, inis was a topic
which interested all of the school, as we listened to the 1948 World Series last week. The juniors and seniors are still making preparations for the Chicken Supper which is to be held at the school gymnasium on October 29th. Tickets are on sale and may be purchased from any junior or senior. Following the chicken supper, there will be
ballroom dancing which is to be held in the gymnasium until 12 p. m. There will be an orchestra to furnish the music. If you are
interested in good food and good1 music, plan to attend this gala event at our school! I The cheerleaders' have purchased the material for their new yell suits for this year. The girls are going to make their own outfits. Their dresses are to be dark blue with "old gold" lining and collars and cuffs of the same material. We think that they will be very pretty. Thursday, during the activity period, the juniors entertained the school. John D. Rhodes played a few selections on his trumpet which we all enjoyed very much. Then the etitire class gave two scenes from their play which is to be given on October 19th at the school gymnasium. We all enjoy
ed this performance. The play is entitled "The Mummy and the Mumps." i Wednesday night, October 6, our teachers held a banquet at the Sullivan Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. j Boston and Herman Drake were I their guests. The teachers report- , ed they enjoyed it very much and Mr. Boston paid many compli- . ments to the Fairbanks school and staff. Wednesday, Mr. Brothers showed a movie "Strategic Materials," a travel picture through South America in color. School has been runnnig so smoothly that the student government is beginning to wonder if they are ever going to have another meeting.
The seventh and eighth grada went on a skating party to Tern
Haute Wednesday night and al
tended a movie afterwards.
