HERE is a pleasant little game that will give you a message every day. It is a numerical puzzle designed to spell out your fortune. ' Count the letters in your first name. If the number of letters is 6 or more, subtract 4. If the number is less than 6, add 3. The result is your key number. Start at the upper left-hand corner of the rectangle and check every one of your key numbers, left to right. Then read the message the letters under the checked figures give you. A Federal coal mine inspector commends a dozen recent safety improvements in th e Sunshine mine, operated by the Sunshine Coal Company, a mile west of Bicknell, Knox County, and recommends further blasting precautions and other safegaurds in a

report released today by the Bureau of Mines. J. P. Sheridan re

infected this mine in July when

132 men were employed in pro

ducing 670 tons cf coal dnily.

Recent improvements included

setting safety posts near working

faces, placing underground explosives section boxes a safe distance from roadways and trolley wires, circulating more air through several last open cross-, cuts, maintaining two permissible flame safety lamos for (?as-test-ing, rock-durtin effectively

throughout equipping locomotives

with rerailing devices, and providing adequate underground fire protection and positive identifica

tion for each underground em

ployee.

Black blasting powder was fired off shift with fuse, the inspector reported. He advocated firing all shots with electric

squibs and an elcetric blasting unit, using only incombustible stemming, and testing for gas before blasting is begun. Wooden tampin bars were recently provided, he said. Other recommendations called for on-shift tests for gas In all working places, and frequent tests when operating nonpermissible electric equipment underground, use of water or other means to allay coal dust during cutting, clean shelter holes, aud-

ible warning devices for locomo-. tives, well-installed insulators for power wires, frame-grounds 1 for mining machines and electric drills, locking devices for miningmachine cutter chains, exclusive -ise of permissible electric cap lamps, and the prohibition of : carrying matches and other 1 flame-making devices under- ! ground. Ventilation was good, and a systematic timbering method was being followed, the inspector said.
