Holy Land. The Ccunt was truly a man of peace and good will. Hio family the royal family of Sweden has for generations distinguished itself by remaining aloof from international quarrels. As head of the Swedish Red Cross and a prominent figure in the International Red Cross, the Count was known ana respected as a sincere and earnest worker for the welfare of all men. Undoubtedly he knew that danger was involved in ac cepting the delicate task of keeping the Arabs and Israeli fiom fruitless slaughter. What does matter is that United Nations now must eith er prove itself an effective force for peace in the world or b lelegated to the same anonymous dust of history where lie the unmcurned body of the League of Nations. : The question now is simple. Is United Nations are th powers which so bravely pledged their good will and strengtl to a wtrld governed by-justice under peaceful law going t take this affront to peace, human dignity and right simplj as an "incident" cr will the collective horror of mankinc over this symbolic killing shock the world into sanity and uni f ied action for peace? Are the nations of the world to cont;nue to allow "inci dents" such as this, such as the conflict between Hyderabat and India, The Netherlands and Indonesia, the Berlin crisis : the Korean and Chinese crises, the Middle European crises continue day after day and week after week until they final ly drift tc their horrible and inevitable conclusion ? Or will the death cf Bernadotte rouse them out of thei present dreadful lethargy? The whole world and we include the Russian peopledifferentiating them from their masters in the Kremlin is desperately tired of the "cold war" which has wracked the globe since V-J Day. - If United Nations does not rise to this occasion not merely to solve the Arab-Israeli problem but to come t grips with all these others, then let us be done with it. Let us find something which will work.
There is no sense in kidding ourselves that we have "one world" today, or even any semblance of it. And if this doe not bring us closer much closer to that desirable goal, then let's fcrget United Nations and start all over again. Most of the nations on earth dc believe in the principle: upon which United Nations was built. Some of them are now
