. Dear Editor: . . ' ' ,4 ! . After reading the advertisement .in your paper, "One Great American Trait," by Joe Marsh, for the ' benefit of the American Brewers
Foundation, I feel duty bound to express my sentiments. 1 "Uncle Joe" pleads for tolerance from those who drink spring water towards those who drink . beer. Conditions are so we have to tolerate those who drink, and
drink to excess. I am proud of the face we live in a free country. But it seems it is more than tolerance when innocent people have to be subject to insults, disturbance of all sorts, danger from drunken drivers, etc. I live in a small town which has no constable or any protection from the law. How lpng shall we be tolerant and expose our children to drunken drivers, drivers who after they are reported,, nothing is done about it. . ,: Let the;"Uncle Joes" who plead for tolerance take care of their "patients" when they have gone their limit in r enjoying their drinks,. y .- , 1 . .. I" more than. ' tolerate, I pity them; They need protection from themselves .' and their appetite. Our children heed protection from their vile talk and their drunken driving. . v , . . IN CONGRESS---Experience Is Important The value of the service of a member of Congress and his ability to help his, people increase with each succeeding term of office. The late Champ Clark, former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of experience in Congress when he made the following statement: "A man has to learn to be a Representative, just as he must learn to be a blacksmith, a carpenter, a farmer,; an engineer, a lawyer, or a doctor. It is an unwise perfcrhjance for any district to' change Representatives at short intervals. A new Congressman must begin at the foot of the class ind spell up. The best rule., it geems to-me, -is for a district to select a ' man with- capacity, : industrious, " honest, energetic, sober and coiiraegous, and keep him here so long as he discharges his. duties fa'thfuUy and well. Such a man will gradually rise to high position and influence in the House. IPs wide, acquaintance with Members helps him amazingly in doing things for his constituents."

Talked to some editors who ran my column in their papers in states where there's mostly cattle and sheep raising about the differences there might be between farming and ranching. And they told me: "Joe, there's no real difference between cattlemen and farmers. We make our living from the land like your folks do; we have the same 4-H Clubs and Granges; the same problems of prices and marketing. "When it comes to recreation, we have the same liking to get to
gether now and then foT a barbecue and a friendly glass of beer." And from where I sit, that about sums it np. Ranchers may have different names for things or grow
different crops. But all over Amer
ica folks who work the land share those common traits of hard work,
sober moderation, and good fellowship, whether they're growing cat
tle for beef, or barley for good
American beer and ale.
